Alan Morris, Arizona, Sonora Desert Museum.

I liked the Arizona, Sonora Desert Museum and was disappointed we didn't have more time to spend there.

Arizona, Sonora Desert Museum.

I would love to return, stay in nearby Tombstone, and spend a whole day looking around the museum. If it is open late in the evening I bet it is great to walk around at night.

The Arizona Sonora Desert Museum opened for the first time in 1952 and has since developed into a combination of a zoo, botanical garden, natural history museum and research institute.

After watching an interesting film about the museum, I visited the hummingbird exhibit and walked in the aviary. I spent a while trying to catch a photo of a hummingbird in flight, but my camera skills were not good enough to capture a shot of the amazing birds that could do them any justice. I was amazed that they could hover and appear to fly backwards.

After visiting the aviary, we walked around the cactus gardens and other sections of the desert museum. Unfortunately, because of the heat, we did not see any desert animals, who, unlike me, were hiding from the sun's heat.

Then, I visited the reptile, amphibian and invertebrate house before returning to the coach. If you are ever in the area, I highly recommend a visit here it is fascinating, and I would love to go back at some time.
