Visit Venice

Since learning about the travels of Marco polo when I was very young and then seeing the canals and gondolas in James Bond films as a boy I had always wanted to visit Venice. On a very wet stormy day in Spain, I got bored and feeling it was time to do a bit more travelling I booked to spend a few days there.

Venice, the city of canals, gondolas, and timeless romance, has long held a place on my bucket list. For three nights & four days, I will soon be wandering its narrow alleys and gliding across its shimmering waterways, discovering why this floating masterpiece captures every traveller’s heart. From St Mark’s Square, where i will be staying, to the quiet corners of the lagoon, Venice is a dream that feels both ancient and alive , a destination that truly deserves to be crossed off the list.

Marco Polo.

Marco Polo, Venice’s most legendary explorer, remains one of the city’s greatest symbols of curiosity and adventure. Born into a family of merchants, he set out from Venice in the 13th century and travelled farther than almost any European of his time, reaching the court of Kublai Khan and returning with stories that reshaped how the world saw the East. Even today, wandering Venice’s narrow alleys and quiet canals, it’s easy to imagine the young Marco setting off from this very city, driven by the same spirit of discovery that still defines Venice.

Rialto Bridge.

The Rialto Bridge is the oldest and most iconic crossing over Venice’s Grand Canal, a graceful stone arch that has stood at the heart of the city for more than four centuries. Lined with small shops and framed by pastel‑coloured buildings, it offers one of the most classic views in all of Venice. Whether seen from the water or admired from its steps, the Rialto feels like the city’s true centre, a place where history, beauty and everyday Venetian life meet.

Grand Lagoon.

The Grand Lagoon is the vast, shimmering heart of Venice, a quiet, open expanse where the city seems to float between water and sky. Dotted with tiny islands, fishing huts, and distant silhouettes of church towers, the lagoon reveals a calmer, more timeless side of Venice beyond the busy canals. At sunrise and sunset, its glassy surface glows with soft gold and pastel tones, reminding you that Venice isn’t just a city built on water, it’s a world shaped by the lagoon itself.

Gondolas & Canals.

The gondolas and canals of Venice are the city’s most enchanting signature, weaving through narrow waterways like moving pieces of history. Gliding along the Grand Canal or slipping quietly through hidden back‑alleys, a gondola ride reveals Venice at its most intimate, reflections dancing on the water, centuries‑old bridges overhead, and the gentle rhythm of the lagoon beneath you. It’s the timeless experience that defines the magic of Venice.

St Mark´s Square.

St Mark’s Square is the grand, open heart of Venice, a breathtaking stage framed by the domes of the Basilica, the soaring Campanile, and elegant arcades that glow in the lagoon light. From the echo of footsteps on the stone to the gentle hum of cafés lining the square, it’s a place where Venice feels both majestic and intimate. Standing here, surrounded by centuries of history, you understand why St Mark’s is known as one of the most beautiful squares in the world.
