Daniel Morris was my Great Great Grandfather, he died thirty-two years before I was born.

Daniel Morris was born in 1859 in St Dogmells Rural district, Pembrokeshire, Wales. He was the son of Daniel Morris & Jane Griffiths.

Daniel Morris got married to Maria Davies at the Parish Church in Aberporth, Cardigan, Wales. They got married on October 23rd 1877. The wedding certificate shows that Daniel's occupation was a Farm Servant & that Daniel's father, Daniel was a Carpenter.

The two witnesses to the wedding were Alfred Nicholas & Evan Jones.

Criminal Case 452208a.

Whilst looking at one of the Genealogy websites I discovered that some of my relatives, had a criminal record. On 16 October 1923, they were committed & bailed from the court in Cardigan, Cardiganshire, Wales. They surrendered themselves to court again on the 6th & 7th of November 1923.

The Offence.

Between 26 December 1922 & 19 February 1923 at the Parish of Tremain & diverse other places, did conspire, combine, confederate & agree together, by diverse false pretences, means & devices, to obtain from Margaret Davies, Elizabeth Ann Jones & John Davies, certain sums of money & in pursuance thereof did obtain certain sums of money, with intent to cheat & defraud.

The Sentence.

My relatives were Tried before Commissioner A J Ashton, KC, on the 6th, 7th & 8th of November 1923 & all were found guilty.

My thoughts.

Unfortunately, I have been unable to find any more information about this crime, but because of the surnames of some of the people who the crime was committed against, I assume that the fraud was against Maria Morris's family. Her maiden name was Davies & she was born in Tremain, two of the victims of the crime had the surname Davies & were from Tremain.
