Lillian Alice Catherine Jones.

Lillian Alice Catherine Jones was my Grand Aunty on the maternal side of my family tree.

Lillian was born on 28 February 1915 in Poplar, London, England. She was baptised in St Marks, Victoria Park on 18 April 1915 & her parents were Walter John Jones & Maria Harris Read, who lived at 29 Dace Road. Walter's occupation at the time was a Night Watchman. She passed away at Tower Hamlets, London, England on 24 September 1990.

My memories of Lillian Alice Catherine Jones.

I was very fond of my Aunt Lil, as she was known to me. I remember going to her apartment in Tower Hamlets many times with my mum. I used to enjoy talking to her about the family tree, I wish I had written some of it down so that her memories could still be enjoyed by others.

Another of my memories of Aunt Lil is from when she & her sisters, Maude & Marie were all together at family parties. The three of them would all sit together with their arms crossed under their ample bosom, pushing their bosoms up whilst gurning. Very much like Les Dawson & Ray Barraclough used to do in their Cissie & Ada sketches. It was a truly frightening sight. This was generally preceded by a small glass of sherry & followed by just one more small glass of sherry.
