Stages of a diet.

I have been trying to lose weight for a long time & have had different results at different times.

16/8 Intermittent fasting diet.

During the lockdown period, it has been difficult to lose weight because of the limitations on moving around & the simple boredom making me eat more so I have decided to try an intermittent fasting diet.

16/8 fasting method.

This intermittent diet involves me missing breakfast & then restricting my eating to an eight hour period. For Instance, I will only be eating between 1 pm and 9 pm. No not for eight hours, but I will only consume between these hours & then fast for 16 hours, until 1 pm the following day.

My reason for picking this diet.

Now we are in the middle of the summer it is easy for me to go swimming again but it is too hot to do much more than this. I do swim & do some aerobic exercise in the sea most mornings but have decided to try Intermittent dieting. There are a few different ways you can do this diet but the version I am trying is the 16/8 method. As I swim in the mornings I always seem to end up eating later anyway. By giving this diet a go, using these hours, I can swim in the morning, get a coffee, read my kindle at the local beach bar & just drink water till lunch. After lunch, I can have a snack if I'm hungry until I have another meal in the evening. I will then fast again until 1 pm the following day.

Day One.

I weighed myself this morning but will not weigh myself again for another week.

For my lunch today I had a homemade tuna salad, made with tinned tuna, mayonnaise, garlic powder, chopped celery, chopped apple & quartered seedless red grapes. It was delicious & I made enough for a few days to keep in the fridge.

For my meal this evening I had turkey slices cooked in my air fryer with a mixed salad. I followed it up with two mixed fruit yoghurts. Apart from drinking green tea & water, this is all I consumed today & at the moment, just before I go to bed, I don't feel hungry at all.

Day Two.

I woke up very early this morning so did some computer work before going swimming at 7:45 am. Not having my breakfast after my swim did feel strange & I began to get very hungry from about 11 am onwards. For lunch, I had tuna salad on toast. Two very large piles of the salad on two slices of toast quickly filled me up.

This evening I still didn't feel that hungry so I had a banana, strawberry & blueberry protein shake. Made using real fruit these are really good & should help with the diet. I went to bed to read about 11 pm & read for a short time.

Day Three.

My swim this morning was a lot longer than expected. I was asked if I could catch an inflatable swan that had been blown into the water. I swam after it, following it for just over a kilometre before a motorboat picked it up. I swam to the shore and walked a kilometre & a quarter, back along the shore to where I'd entered the sea. On a good note, after resting up, I didn't have to wait too long before I could have something to it.

After lunch, I went to the quiz at La Zona bar but after this mornings exertions, I found the heat too much for me & left earlier than planned. At home, I had the last bit of tuna salad with some chicken & green salad for my dinner.

Day Four.

I had my morning swim earlier today to try to avoid the lost inflatable requests. After doing my swim & aerobic exercise I read at Chiringuito El Lobo for a while before going home, to escape the heat. For lunch, I had chicken salad.

For dinner this evening I used up the last of the chicken salad.

Day Five.

I did my swim & aerobics quite early this morning as I wanted to do some cooking, before watching the football this evening. After my exercise, I spent the morning making up pie mix from ingredients that I wanted to use up in the freezer. It is surprising how hungry I felt making these.

For lunch I make a spinach & cheese omelette, I am surprised by how good it tasted & will try this again.

Having finished making several pies. I put some away & kept one out for my dinner. My 'Useitup Pie'' was made with minced beef, onion, kidney beans, peas & sweetcorn with soy sauce. It was lovely.

Day 6.

I had my morning swim & did my water aerobics this morning. It was a bit cooler after the rain yesterday but the water was lovely.

For lunch today I had another one of the pies I made, I just made up some gravy to go with it & sat on my balcony watching the world go by as I ate it for lunch. I walked down to my local pub after lunch & sat watching the wildlife while I drank a bottle of the pub's homemade lemonade.

I don't know if it was the heat or today's exercise but I just wasn't hungry in the evening so I didn't force myself to have anything for dinner.

Day 7.

I had my morning swim & water aerobics today & then spent some time sitting in the sea feeding bread to shoals of fish. It was amazing they completely surrounded me & some were brave enough to nibble it from my hand. I had taken a camera with me & was able to get some short videos of the fish as I fed them & a couple of really good photos of them feeding & jumping around me.

For lunch, I had fish & chips, no not the ones I was feeding this morning. I had some Haddock fillets so I covered them in lemon & steamed them in butter. It was very nice & I will try it again. This evening I was not hungry & just had a protein shake which I made with banana, blueberries & raspberries.

The big weigh-in.

Thanks to the fact that a lot of the people from Madrid went back to Madrid yesterday I had a great uninterrupted nights sleep last night. It was the first time in a while as there was very little banging, music & shouting until the early hours of the morning. I was actually able to sleep with the windows open. Anyway I digress, this morning is time for the big weigh-in to see if this weeks' dieting efforts & exercise have been worth it.

After weighing myself several times to check the results & the scales I am over the moon to say I have lost five pounds. At the start of the week, I did feel more tired for a couple of days but by the end of the week I was feeling more energetic, I will be continuing this diet to try to continue to lose more weight & would recommend it to others.
