The blogs in this category are all about different health conditions, some of which I have suffered from, or do suffer from and others that friends and family have suffered from, which is why I have an interest in them.
I have also added some blogs about the medication I have to take, including its purpose and effects. I will, in time, start to add details of alternative therapies and treatments, many of which I think should be used more often and potentially replace many of the man-made drugs prescribed by medical practitioners.
I am not a big fan of big drug companies, but I do appreciate that they are a necessary evil in many cases. I believe in health over profit, not profit from sick and unhealthy people.
I have been using anticoagulants since suffering from a DVT while in the hospital after a serious car crash in 1990. I have learnt about them and have learnt to live well, despite having to use them for the rest of my life.
My name is Alan, and I am an Arsenal Fan. There I have said it. The Arsenal Fan Experience is one of a lifetime of hope, of heartbreak, and occasional glory.
I read somewhere that beetroot and carrot juice might help me with some of my health conditions, so I bought both and juiced them. I was surprised at how good it tasted, especially considering the low cost of the ingredients.
Imagine navigating the world without relying on sight, finding independence in the sounds, textures, and sensations that others might overlook. For millions around the globe, blindness and partial sight are everyday realities, shaping their unique experiences of the world.
A brain haemorrhage, also known as a cerebral haemorrhage or intracranial bleed, is a serious medical condition where bleeding occurs within the brain.
Chronotypes are your biological predisposition to be more alert or sleepy at certain times of day, shaping your sleep patterns, productivity, and even personality traits. Understanding your chronotype can help you align your lifestyle with your natural rhythms for better health and performance.
Deep Vein Thrombosis is a condition in which a blood clot forms in a deep vein, typically in the legs. It can be serious because the clot might travel to the lungs, causing a pulmonary embolism, which can be life-threatening.
Doppler scanners are powerful tools that apply the principles of the Doppler effect to analyse motion, especially in fluids like blood or air. These scanners play a vital role across various fields, most notably in medicine, meteorology, and engineering.
I suffered from Epilepsy for a couple of years after a serious car accident, which meant I had to have some operations on my brain and left me with brain damage. Epilepsy is more than just a medical term; it’s a lived experience. Luckily for me I have now not suffered from it for many years but I do remember how horrible and vulnerable it did make me feel.
GERD is a chronic digestive condition in which stomach acid frequently flows back into the oesophagus, causing irritation.
I only started suffering from gout a few years ago, and until then, I never knew what it was. I thought it was something pirates got.
C-reactive protein is an acute-phase protein made by your liver in response to inflammation in the body.
Hypertension, commonly known as high blood pressure, is a condition where the force of blood against the walls of your arteries is consistently too high. Over time, this excessive pressure can lead to serious health complications, including heart disease, stroke, and kidney damage.
The International Normalised Ratio test is a crucial blood test used to measure how long it takes for blood to clot. It is primarily used to monitor patients who are taking anticoagulant medications, such as warfarin or sintrom, to ensure their blood is clotting at a safe and effective rate. I have to have this test regularly.
Necrotising fasciitis is a rare but very serious infection that spreads quickly through the body’s soft tissues (the fascia and surrounding areas). You may have heard it referred to as a “flesh‑eating” infection. That nickname is scary, and while the infection is aggressive, fast treatment saves lives.
I have taken Omeprazole for many years, but I don't like taking unnecessary tablets and drugs. I researched information about it from reputable sources and wrote this to gain a deeper understanding of it and its functions.
I have suffered from a pulmonary embolism, and it caused me to be taken to the hospital by ambulance. I spent some time in the hospital having treatment before being released.
In the few weeks I had been using my Oura ring and looking at the data that it provides, I had realised that making even small differences in how I lived could make a difference to my weight. I wondered if switching the sugar in my tea and coffee for honey could help, and after doing some research, this is what I learnt.
When most people hear the words “root canal,” they immediately think of pain and dread. But the truth is, modern dentistry has transformed this once-feared procedure into a highly effective, relatively comfortable treatment that saves millions of teeth every year.
Good sleep is one of the most important aspects of our health, but few people understand the different types of sleep. It's not all about going to bed, sleeping and getting up.
