Location: Los Alcázares, Murcia, Spain
Summary: This was a quiet week spent recovering from a stubborn cold. Most of my time was spent indoors working on my website, keeping warm and resting, with a short outing on Friday for a few beers at a local bar.
Monday, 16th January
I woke up feeling a bit better. The Frenadol I was taking seemed to be working and I slept very well. I normally sleep around six hours, but last night I slept for ten. This morning I cleaned the kitchen, worked on my website and pottered around the apartment.
At lunchtime a friend came to pick up the old television I had donated to someone he knew. I hope it gets good use. The rest of the day was spent working on my website.
Tuesday, 17th January
I went to Economy Cash this morning to get a few groceries and afterwards met Martin for a coffee at Cafe Parking. We then moved to a cafe I had not been to before, Punto y Coma, for another coffee. After chatting for a while it got cold, so I went back to my apartment and put the heating on.
While at home I was contacted again by the DWP in England and was able to answer their questions. I spent the rest of the day working on my website. I am spending so much time on it that I feel like I am spinning silk out of my backside.
Wednesday, 18th January
I spent the whole day indoors working on my website, staying warm and making a beautiful chicken and vegetable soup. It was so thick it was more like a stew. I made enough for dinner and froze four more portions.
I had another call from the DWP but could not answer all their questions until I speak to my bank tomorrow.
Thursday, 19th January
I woke up around 08:00 and had a coffee before going to the bank to speak to my account manager. My appointment was at 10:00. I arrived at 09:45 and was seen at 10:30. Appointment times at banks in Spain do not seem to work the same way as in the rest of the world. Even when I arrive early, I still have to wait.
I soon had the paperwork sorted and also arranged insurance for my cruise in February. On the way home I went to the pharmacy to get more Frenadol. I also asked for more Sintrom tablets. The lady asked if both were for me, then went to speak to another pharmacist. When she returned she told me I could not take both at the same time and gave me an alternative to Frenadol. Instead of taking the drink twice a day, I now have to take two tablets three times a day. It is a good job I have a tablet organiser or I would never remember everything.
When I got home I made a pot of jasmine green tea with peach and honey, then sat at my computer to work on my website again.
Friday, 20th January
I spent the morning working on my website, but by the afternoon my eyes were sore from too much screen time. I decided to go out for a beer and walked to La Playa bar. I spent the afternoon and evening there chatting with friends. I had planned to get a Chinese meal on the way home, but after a few beers and a few shots I just wanted to sleep. Shellie dropped me home and I fell asleep on the sofa watching television. When I woke at around 03:00 it was too late for food, so I went to bed.
Saturday, 21st January
I decided to rest my eyes today and not work on the computer. I spent the whole day watching football on television, although none of the matches were very good. In the evening I watched a few episodes of a Jamie Theakston documentary, Forbidden History, before going to bed early.
Sunday, 22nd January
I woke around 07:00 and got a coffee before sitting at my computer. My eyes were not as sore and the day off had helped. I watched some of the Manchester City game to see Haaland get his hat trick, but I was really waiting for the biggest game of Arsenal’s season so far. I was not disappointed. Arsenal beat Manchester United 3-2 in a fantastic match. Eddie Nketiah scored the winner in the last minute and the ground erupted. I celebrated from home under a blanket in my apartment.
I enjoyed the game so much that I stayed awake long enough to watch the highlights again on MOTD before going to bed.
