Journal: Week 08 2023

Location: Los Alcázares, Murcia, Spain

Summary: This week was spent helping friends, sorting out jobs in my apartment and preparing for my upcoming cruise. At the end of the week, I travelled to Alicante to join the MSC Lirica for my Mediterranean and Moroccan holiday.

Monday, 20th February

I woke up and got a coffee at around 07:00. I worked on my website for a few hours before heading out at around 10:30 to help my friend Jackie with an email problem. I chatted with Jackie and Alan while making updates to her notepad. I managed to get it working temporarily and promised to return in a few weeks to give her some computer lessons.

After leaving Jackie and Alan, I went to Pizzeria La Sombre for a beer with Martin. His dad, Dave, and his wife, Kate, joined us. We chatted for about 90 minutes before heading home. It still amazes me that soft drinks now cost as much or more than alcoholic drinks. I would love to see a breakdown of the costs to understand how bars justify the prices.

Once home, I heated up the Sunday lunch I didn’t finish yesterday and had it for dinner. My leg was a bit swollen from the walking I had done recently, so the rest of the day was spent resting on the sofa.

Tuesday, 21st February

I woke around 07:00, got a coffee and worked on my website before washing and cleaning my kitchen. It looked grey outside, so I kept an eye on the weather before going out later.

I worked without a break until around 11:40, then went down to the garage to get my disability scooter. When the lift doors opened, I saw puddles everywhere, it had clearly been raining, but I had been concentrating so hard I hadn’t noticed. Luckily, the sun was out again, so I rode to meet Martin. We chatted for a while, and Dave and Kate joined us. At 14:00, Martin and Kate met Aria from the school bus, and I headed home.

On the way, I saw Amanda and stopped to chat. A few other ladies joined us before heading off to play bingo. I finished my drink and went home, stopping at Dia for bread.

Once home, I watched Live at the Apollo before going to bed at around 00:00.

Wednesday, 22nd February

I woke at around 07:00 and immediately put a load of washing on. I had lots to do before going on holiday on Friday. After the first load, I got a coffee and sorted through my plastic containers. I keep too many from takeaways, so I put a lot of them in the recycling bag. I then worked on my website for an hour.

In the afternoon, Alan Bond came round with some sound system equipment he was trying to connect to his phone and computer. After swearing and scratching our heads, we eventually read the manual. The USB port we were looking for was actually a USB‑C port. Once we realised this, we laughed so much we cried. Neither of us had a USB‑C cable, so Alan will have to buy one before updating the firmware.

After Alan left, Peggy came round to vacuum the apartment. Later, I got the good news that my DWP payment had finally gone into my bank and should now be paid regularly every four weeks. This means I can get a proper cleaner to help with the jobs I struggle with.

In the evening, I received a message from the delivery company saying my delivery would arrive tomorrow.

Thursday, 23rd February

I woke around 06:45, got a coffee and worked on my website. Most of the work I had been doing is now finished, and I found some Joomla extensions that add open graph data automatically. I was very pleased with this as it makes sharing pages much easier.

I spent the day pottering around the apartment and making a list of things to pack tomorrow. I went to D’Pollo for lunch to save cooking. In the evening, Bob came round to cut off my platinum‑blonde curls, leaving me with my usual prison haircut to match my clean‑shaven face.

I intended to go to bed early, but I was too excited about my holiday, so I worked on my website a bit more before going to bed sometime after midnight.

Friday, 24th February

I woke around 06:00 but stayed in bed until 07:30. I got up, had a coffee, worked on my website, had another coffee and then packed my case. I took my spoilable food to my neighbours and my rubbish to the bins.

When I got back, I couldn’t find my phone. In a panic, I knocked on my neighbour’s door and asked them to ring it. We heard it ringing and eventually found it under the bed in my spare room. It must have fallen out of my pocket earlier.

In the afternoon, I left for Alicante to begin my Mediterranean and Moroccan holiday.

Saturday, 25th February

Today, I joined my cruise ship, the MSC Lirica, in Alicante and sailed off on my holiday around the Mediterranean.
