Journal: Week 14 2023

Location: Los Alcázares, Spain.

Summary: A slow week while I felt under the weather, working on my website, watching the Masters golf and football, and dealing with Amazon deliveries and a TV bracket.

Monday 3rd April

I got up early and pottered around on my computer for a while. I was not feeling brilliant and sat on the sofa with a cold drink to watch the news at about 10:00. The next thing I knew it was midday and I had woken myself up by snoring.

I grabbed my keys, went to the garage and took my disability scooter to meet Martin at Pizzeria La Sombre. I arrived late at about 12:30 but Martin let me off. I did not feel much like working so I just got a bottle of water. We sat chatting for about an hour and were joined by Dave, Viv, Aria, Kate and Sean.

Still not feeling great I headed home, parked the scooter, removed the battery from my electric bike and took it upstairs to charge. I must have fallen asleep quickly because I did not wake until late afternoon. Several ulcers had appeared in my mouth which usually means I am run down.

I ate something, fell asleep again until around 21:00, then watched the Everton vs Tottenham match before going to bed.

Tuesday 4th April

I slept quite well but the ulcers were sore when I woke. I decided to stay in and take it easy. I watched a bit of television and fell asleep again, waking around 14:00.

When I went to make a sandwich I realised I had no butter. I took my now charged bike battery downstairs, fitted it to the bike and rode my disability scooter to Dia for butter. Then I went straight home for my sandwich.

After eating I fell asleep again until about 19:00. Still hungry but not wanting a big meal I had some cereal and watched the Chelsea vs Liverpool match. It finished 0-0. I went to bed as soon as it ended but after an hour I woke up and could not get back to sleep. I went on my computer for a bit until I felt drowsy and went back to bed at about 02:00.

Wednesday 5th April

I woke around 09:00 feeling a little better. The ulcers were slowly improving. I hoped whatever had been making me feel rough was finally going.

I worked on my website for a while then put it offline for everyone except me so I could make changes. After a couple of hours I needed some fresh air so I took a bin full of recyclable coffee capsules to Mercadona. While there I picked up milk, fruit and a couple of rolls.

Back home I had a cheese and egg burger for lunch and continued working on the site. At about 16:30 I decided to try once more to return some trousers to Amazon. They had been packed since early February but no one had collected them. I finally got through to a real person and within ten minutes she arranged a return via Correos and issued a refund. I was glad I tried again as I thought I had lost the money and would be stuck with trousers I would never wear.

After getting a new television and having it on a table in the lounge I decided to get it wall mounted. I chose a suitable bracket and ordered it. Once it is on the wall I hope to move my computer into the lounge as well, giving me more room in the spare room.

Thursday 7th April

Today was the start of the Masters in Augusta, Georgia which means only one thing. I would be glued to the television until it finished. Visiting Augusta National is still on my bucket list.

I picked up some shopping to last me through Easter, worked on my website and chose four golfers for my Fantasy Golf Team. I watched the golf all night and was pleased to see my amateur pick Sam Bennett doing well.

Friday 8th April

I worked on my website in the morning and finally realised what was wrong with the navigation system so I started fixing it.

I watched more of the Masters but play was suspended due to lightning. The players who had not finished round two would have to complete it tomorrow. When I checked my Fantasy Golf scores I realised I had selected the wrong Sam. I meant to pick amateur Sam Bennett but accidentally chose professional Sam Burns. Bennett scored better too. At least I had not placed a bet this year.

Saturday 9th April

Peggy did the vacuuming for me before I settled into another full day of website work.

Amazon emailed at about 17:00 to say my delivery would not arrive until tomorrow due to unavoidable problems. I did not care about their problems. I wanted my TV bracket. It is due to be fitted on Monday.

For food I treated myself to a Thai soup base Martin had given me. I cooked some sausages and added them to the soup. It turned out fantastic and I ate four bowls throughout the day.

The Masters was interrupted again due to lightning and heavy rain which gave me more time to work on the website. I worked until about 02:00.

Sunday 10th April

I woke around 08:00, grabbed a coffee and carried on with the website. I designed new headers for many journal sections and added images while updating the navigation.

I cleared the kitchen mid morning before getting ready for lunch with June. On my way out I saw the Amazon driver sprint past me, jump in his van and drive off. I asked my neighbour Liz to keep an eye out in case he returned.

June picked me up at 12:45 for Sunday lunch at Campbell's in Roda. As always the meal was great but I did not linger as I wanted to get home in case I had missed the delivery. When June dropped me off at 14:00 Liz told me the driver had returned as soon as I left but she caught him and took the parcel for me. I gratefully collected it and went back to my apartment.

In the evening I watched Liverpool vs Arsenal. Arsenal went 0-2 up and looked strong but Liverpool pulled one back before half time and dominated the second half. With twenty minutes to go I could not watch anymore and switched to the golf. I flicked back occasionally and saw Liverpool equalise. It finished 2-2. Before the match I would have taken a draw but at 0-2 I thought we would score more. Arsenal were hanging on at the end and I was relieved with the point. This season will go right to the wire. Please Arsenal win every game from here.

I stayed up to watch the end of the Masters and saw Jon Rahm win. It was great to see a European win it and even better that he is from my new home country Spain. A brilliant performance. It was sad watching Tiger Woods struggle to walk. As much as I hate to say it maybe for his health he should retire.
