Location: Los Alcázares, Murcia, Spain
Summary: A painful week dominated by knee trouble, website hosting battles, meals with friends, a few bright moments of socialising, and a slow but steady recovery. Arsenal delivered some joy, and your new hosting finally came through.
Monday, 23rd October
I woke around 08:00, still in a lot of pain, and walking was difficult. After coffee, I tried again to sort out a new hosting company for my website. Choosing the new host was easy, but the old host claimed they were having server problems and couldn’t transfer my domain yet. They promised to look into it.
At 16:00, I took my disability scooter to Perlitas to pay the small bill I had left unpaid when I took a taxi home last week. They were kind and told me to look after my leg. I went home, settled on the sofa, took painkillers and drifted in and out of sleep while watching TV.
Tuesday, 24th October
My knee was still very painful, so I accepted that I needed to rest and use my disability scooter more. At 13:30, Jim picked me up for lunch at El Puente in Avileses. We met Dave and had a great Menu del Día, salad to start, then a meat and potato stew. Jim and Dave had vanilla ice cream, and I had something like a Vienetta. It was delicious.
We chatted until 16:00 and arranged to meet for breakfast tomorrow. Jim dropped me home, and I took more painkillers. At 20:00, I had a jacket potato with beans and cheese and watched Sevilla vs Arsenal. Arsenal won 1–2, putting them back on top of the group. I went to bed happier, though still in pain.
Wednesday, 25th October
I woke at 08:00, had coffee and was picked up by Jim at 10:00. We met Dave and Doreen at Café Mio in San Javier. I had a brilliant breakfast, choosing exactly what I wanted, bacon, sausage, beans, mushrooms, fried egg, tomato, hash browns, toast and coffee. It’s a shame it’s too far for my scooter.
My knee was throbbing when Jim dropped me home. In the afternoon, my new hosting company finished setting up my hosting package. I’m very pleased with them so far, but the old host still refuses to release my domain, so the old version of my website is still showing.
I spent the evening with my leg raised to reduce the swelling.
Thursday, 26th October
The pain in my knee is slowly easing, but I stayed off it as much as possible. I spent the entire day trying to get my old hosts to release my domain. They kept insisting I could do it myself, but every time I tried, their system returned errors. They promised to fix it and get back to me, but nothing happened.
Friday, 27th October
I woke at 08:00 feeling a bit better. After coffee, I went out on my disability scooter to get some shopping. I picked up a hard drive from Jacky to put videos on for her and dropped hundreds of used aluminium coffee pods into the Mercadona recycling bin.
I continued to Economy Cash for a few bits. It was nice to get out after being stuck indoors most of the week. I saw Matt, and then Damien and Marie on my way home. Living in Spain makes it so much easier to get out and see people. The cold and wet in England would make my aches far worse.
I spent the evening at home watching TV and went to bed around midnight.
Saturday, 28th October
I woke at 07:00, had coffee, put washing on and went to Buena Vista for breakfast on my scooter. It was chilly, so I wore a cardigan, but it soon warmed up. I enjoyed my tostada and coffee while reading my Kindle. The reflection of the Mar Menor in the restaurant window looked beautiful, so I took a photo.
Wayne joined me at 10:00, and we chatted for an hour. Afterwards, I went to the Chino shop and bought a tray for my plants and two pots that Wayne will hang on my balcony wall for me. My eyesight makes drilling difficult, so his help will be appreciated.
Back home, I waited for an Amazon delivery, only to be told the shop was closed and they couldn’t deliver. I rearranged delivery to my home address.
In the afternoon, I watched Arsenal vs Sheffield United. Eddie Nketiah, who I’ve criticised all season, scored a hat trick, captained the team after Saka went off and was man of the match. My apologies, Eddie, keep it up.
In the evening, I watched MOTD and then two boxing matches. The British heavyweight fight was excellent. The Fury vs Ngannou fight was even better. Ngannou knocked Fury down in the third round and clearly won on points, but the judges gave it to Fury in a split decision.
Sunday, 29th October
I woke at 08:00 when my alarm went off, having automatically adjusted for the clocks going back. Technology can be wonderful. I had coffee and checked my website, pleased to see it finally working properly with the new host.
I updated a few pages, then received a call from George, who wants help backing up his phone. We arranged to meet next week.
I spent the day pottering on my computer and watching football. My appetite returned, and I ate well. The temperature dropped, and I even got a blanket out while watching TV. None of my Amazon deliveries arrived over the weekend, so hopefully they will come tomorrow.
