Location: Los Alcázares, Murcia, Spain
Summary: A week of recovering from your Brazil trip, fighting off a cold, catching up with friends, working on your website photos, and watching Arsenal in two dramatic matches.
Monday, 4th December
I woke around 10:00 feeling a little better, but the cold I caught since leaving Brazil had left me with a cough, blocked nose and congested chest. I went to the office around midday and spent a couple of hours with Martin and Dave before heading home and putting the heating on. I had an early night and went to bed around 21:30.
Tuesday, 5th December
I woke around 08:00, still full of cold. After coffee, I worked on photos for my website until midday, then went to see Martin and Dave at the office. On the way home, I stopped at Economy Cash for chicken and a few bits of shopping before returning to work on my website.
In the evening, I watched Luton vs Arsenal. It was a fantastic game for neutrals but a nail biter for me. Arsenal won 3–4, with Declan Rice scoring the winner in the 97th minute. The celebrations were wild, and Mikel Arteta even got a yellow card for celebrating too much. I went to bed shattered but happy.
Wednesday, 6th December
I woke around 08:30, had coffee and checked my messages. I walked to Buena Ventura restaurant for a cooked breakfast and sat talking with my neighbour Liz until 11:00. I spent the rest of the day sorting through my holiday photos to decide which ones to put on my website.
Thursday, 7th December
I slept late again and woke around 08:30. At 10:00, Pat messaged asking if I wanted breakfast at Buena Vista. We both had a full English before going to a charity event at Roda Bar. I saw Reinder and Frouk selling their stained glass ornaments, then had coffee with Mike Campbell and Martin. Later, another Mike joined us, and Pat returned before leaving to pick up a lemon tree.
After Pat dropped me home, I spent the day working on my website and added photos from my Brazil holiday.
Friday, 8th December
I woke at 07:00 feeling better. I think the cold has gone, and I’m just recovering from the long journey home. I spent the day working on photos and typing up notes for my Brazil holiday pages. After a full day of website work, I watched some films and went to bed just after 23:00.
Saturday, 9th December
I woke around 07:30 and decided to stay in my warm apartment as it was cold outside. I spent the day working on my website and watching football. Liverpool beat Crystal Palace to go top of the league, and in the evening Aston Villa beat Arsenal 1–0 with the help of some dreadful refereeing and even worse VAR decisions.
Arsenal’s goal was disallowed for handball, even though the ball was deflected onto Havertz’s arm by a Villa handball that wasn’t given. VAR has been inconsistent all season, and referees seem to be using it as an excuse not to make decisions.
Sunday, 10th December
I had a coffee and worked on my website until 12:30, then waited for June to pick me up for dinner at Campbell Bar in Roda. We had a great meal, and Lauren talked us into having lemon curd pie afterwards. June took me to the airport when I went on my cruise and picked me up from the train station when I returned, so I bought dinner today as a thank you.
After dinner, June dropped me home, and I watched the afternoon and evening football matches before going to bed.
