Journal: Week 07 2024

Location: Los Alcázares, Murcia, Spain

Summary: A week of website work, Amazon deliveries, finger trouble, antibiotics, coffee experiments, photo‑sorting marathons, rugby, football and steady progress toward your Hawaii and Alaska adventure.

Monday, 12th February

I woke around 07:30, had coffee and worked on my website. I was waiting for Amazon to deliver some boots, so I stayed home. While browsing Facebook, I saw an advert for coffee capsules and ordered some Ginseng coffee like the one I enjoyed on a cruise last year.

I received a message from Google confirming that the unnecessary listings I removed yesterday had finally disappeared. That will make indexing much easier.

After posting last week’s blog, I portioned the soup I made yesterday and froze it. My Amazon delivery arrived at 13:30. The boots were excellent quality but far too small. Shoe sizes seem to be a lottery. I arranged a return and had grilled cheese and ham rolls with the last of the soup for lunch.

I worked on my website all afternoon and evening, stopping at 19:00 for chicken and chips. I went to bed around 22:00.

Tuesday, 13th February

I woke at 06:30, had coffee and checked my emails. Metro Bank had finally responded about the account my sister and I have been trying to close. I sent them the document they needed and told my sister.

I cooked bacon, egg, sausage, beans, tomato and mushrooms for breakfast, then went to the pharmacy for tablets. I walked through the market on the way home and decided I will start buying fruit and vegetables there more often.

Back home, I indexed more pages and updated descriptions on my China photo albums. At 15:30, June took me to Ala 30 garden centre, where I bought compost and a Justicia Carnea plant.

In the evening, I fell asleep on the sofa. At 18:40, I went to the doctor for my appointment. The nurse lanced my finger, removed a splinter and applied antibiotic cream. I was given antibiotics and told to return only if it had not healed in a week.

Back home, the pain made me feel sick. I took a painkiller and rested before doing a little website work. I set the dishwasher to run at midnight and went to bed at 22:30.

Wednesday, 14th February

I woke at 07:00, had coffee and noticed the dishwasher had left a white residue on some dishes, so I ran a quick wash. I checked messages and worked on my website.

At 10:00, I collected my antibiotic prescription and started the course. I spent the rest of the day editing photos, adding descriptions and doing blog administration. I stopped at 19:00 and cooked steak, egg, fried potatoes and mushrooms.

In the evening, I transferred money between bank accounts to pay for my cruise, watched TV and went to bed just after 23:00.

Thursday, 15th February

I woke at 07:00 to take my first antibiotic of the day. After coffee, I had a supercharged bowl of porridge with frozen berries, banana, peanuts, walnuts, raisins, honey and yoghurt.

I indexed more pages and then met Liz at Buena Vista at 10:30 for coffee. We sat in the sun until midday. I stopped at the spice shop for potatoes on the way home.

I worked on my website until 15:00, had crackers for lunch, took my second antibiotic and had a siesta. I worked again until 19:00, then had the second half of yesterday’s steak with chips. I continued working until 23:00, took my final antibiotic and watched an episode of Law and Order before bed at midnight.

Friday, 16th February

I woke at 06:00, had coffee and spent half an hour trying to work out what day it was. I convinced myself it was Saturday until the coffee kicked in and I realised it was Friday.

I was expecting a coffee delivery and hoped it would not take all day. I worked on my photos and discovered thousands of duplicates caused by my backup syncing. I bought software to help identify them and set it running.

I received a message saying my coffee would arrive between 15:15 and 16:15. I took recycling out, bought groceries from Economy Cash and had a peppered burger for lunch.

The duplicate‑finder software had found thousands of photos, so I spent hours choosing which to keep. My coffee finally arrived at 17:45. I worked until 23:30, then watched the Graham Norton Show. Rag’n’Bone Man performed his new song. It will probably grow on me, but it is not as good as Human. I went to bed afterwards.

Saturday, 17th February

I woke late after sleeping through my alarm. I tried one of the new Ginseng coffees. It tasted lovely but was not strong enough for a double double. At 28 cents a double shot, it is still good value. The Italian blend is even better at 22 cents.

I did the Wordle puzzle, making it 21 days in a row. After that, I looked at excursions for my Hawaii and Alaska cruise and booked six trips, three in each location.

I spent the rest of the day sorting thousands of photos into a better filing system. I stopped to watch Burnley vs Arsenal. Arsenal won 0–5 and could have scored more.

I continued sorting photos until 01:00, then went to bed.

Sunday, 18th February

I woke at 08:00, had coffee and porridge and worked on my photos. At 10:30, Liz messaged asking if I wanted a coffee, so I walked to Buena Vista. We chatted and said hello to Mick and his mum Sheila before heading home at midday.

I continued working on my photos until 16:00, then put a pork joint in the oven. I ate the crackling but was not hungry, so I left the pork to cool for next week.

I worked late again, finishing around midnight before going to bed.
