Summary: A sociable and productive week with lunches out, long chats with friends, photo‑sorting, new boots, binge‑worthy TV, and a mix of football highs and lows. A steady, enjoyable end to February.
Monday, 26th February
I woke around 05:45, had coffee and published last week’s blog. I indexed another 100 pages on Bing, did the Wordle puzzle and got it quickly, but the Connections puzzle beat me today.
After breakfast at 08:30, I worked on my website until 11:40, then headed to the office. I took recycling to the bin and stopped at the ATM on the way. Martin and I chatted until 15:00. On my way home, I saw Yasmin outside Rocco’s and stopped for a chat.
When people arrived for the quiz, I went to La Petit Bistro to see Alan. I played the last bingo game but didn’t win. When Alan finished calling, we moved to Perlitas for a drink and then to Harry’s Bar, where we met Paul and Paula. We had a great laugh with them.
After leaving Harry’s, I went home, ate, watched TV and went to bed.
Tuesday, 27th February
I woke at 06:30 but went back to sleep until 08:00. After coffee, I indexed more pages on Google and Bing and pottered on my computer until 11:00.
I had a feeling I had forgotten something, so I checked my calendar. I was glad I did — Jim was picking me up at 13:15, not 11:15. I had some toast and waited indoors.
Jim collected me, and we drove to Pinar de Campoverde for lunch at San Marino. We met David and Doreen and had a lovely Menu del Día. I had pasta bolognese, pork and a beautiful flan. Highly recommended, but best to book as it is small and gets busy.
After lunch, we drove to Torre de la Horadada for coffee overlooking the port. When it got cold, we headed home. Jim dropped me off and arranged to pick me up on Thursday for shopping.
I put the heating on and watched TV until bed at 22:30.
Wednesday, 28th February
I woke at 07:30, had coffee and porridge and spent the entire day editing and posting photos from my 2011 Queen Mary II trip. I went to bed early at 22:00.
Thursday, 29th February
I woke at 08:00, had coffee and a bacon sandwich and researched video cameras. There are so many vlog‑style cameras that I am unsure which one to get.
At 13:00, Jim picked me up to go to La Zenia. I needed walking boots for my holiday. Deichmann had nothing suitable, but I found a great pair in Al Campo — good fit, good price. In Primark, I found cheap tracksuit bottoms perfect for lounging or office days.
We then went to the Wok Buffet for lunch. The food was tasty with lots of choice, but much of it was only lukewarm. At €18.95 plus €3.50 for water, it was expensive. I enjoyed it but won’t rush back.
Back in Los Alcázares, we stopped at Café Avenida for an Asiatico and chatted with George and Yvonne. Jim dropped me home, and in the evening I started watching Mr Mercedes, based on the Stephen King trilogy. It was excellent. I watched it until bed at 22:30.
I also survived another leap year without being proposed to. Julia Roberts and Salma Hayek really need to get a move on.
Friday, 1st March
I woke at 07:30, had coffee and porridge and researched video cameras again. I ordered one small enough for travelling, plus an extra battery and a larger memory card.
At 10:30, I met Liz at Buena Vista for coffee. We chatted until midday. For lunch, I had a seafood salad and then binge‑watched Mr Mercedes for the rest of the day. I stopped at 20:00 for chicken wings and watched more episodes until 23:00.
Saturday, 2nd March
I woke at 07:00, had coffee and did some washing. I put the dishwasher on, took recycling out and charged my disability scooter. After stripping my bed, I had porridge and worked on my computer until 13:30.
I walked to the spice shop for a potato, then had green tea and a toasted cheese and tuna sandwich for lunch. I flicked between football matches and more episodes of Mr Mercedes.
When I cut into the potato for my chips, I found something had burrowed through it, leaving dark tunnels. I threw it away and used my last tiny potato. I ended up with fish and about six chips, decorated with tomato sauce. Haute cuisine. It tasted fantastic — I just wish there had been more chips.
I remade my bed, watched MOTD and went to bed.
Sunday, 3rd March
I woke at 08:00 with a slight headache and hoped it wasn’t a cold coming. After coffee, I checked my email and did the Wordle puzzle. Despite having four letters after two attempts, Wordle beat me today.
I worked on my website and then had a bacon sandwich. The wind howled past the balcony, so I stayed warm under a blanket and finished season 2 of Mr Mercedes.
In the evening, I watched the Manchester derby. I had hoped United would win to help Arsenal, but after taking a 0–1 lead, they let City back in. City won 3–1.
I went to bed at 22:30, hoping my delivery would arrive early tomorrow.
