Location: Los Alcázares, Murcia, Spain
Summary: A week of massages, meals with friends, windy walks, cruise prep, website work, fasting experiments, broken glasses, and a dramatic end to March with football and stormy weather.
Monday, 25th March
I woke, had coffee and a massage, and updated my website while waiting for Mick to arrive. He came at 10:15 and quickly fitted my new washing line in the spare room. After he left, I returned a parcel to Amazon at Tecnyshop and then went to the office to meet Martin and Dave.
Rosa greeted me with her usual big smile. I had a beer and was joined by Martin and Aria, who is off school for two weeks. Dave, Sean and Kate also joined us. By 14:00, everyone drifted off, and I headed home.
In the evening, I met friends at Thai Aroi. I had grilled pork to start, which was fantastic, and then Pad Mee with chicken. I also tried prawn cakes from the others and took two home for lunch. The owner introduced us to the chef, a young Thai lady, and brought us tapioca pudding with sweetcorn. I ate mine and Pat’s. I waddled home afterwards, relaxed in my massage chair and went to bed.
Tuesday, 26th March
I woke early, had coffee and a massage, then updated my website. At 10:00, Liz messaged from Buena Vista, so I walked over for coffee. After chatting until 11:40, she dropped me at Las Claras so I could walk to meet Martin.
At La Sombre, I sat with Martin, Dave and Sean. Later, Jess and another man joined us, making it noisier than usual. When they left, June phoned, and I asked her for a lift. She dropped me at the café near my apartment so I could meet George and Yvonne.
We chatted for hours and moved inside when it got cooler. I placed a bet on the Wales vs Poland match before heading home. For tea, I reheated the leftover rice and prawn cakes from last night. I fell asleep watching TV and went to bed early.
Wednesday, 27th March
I woke feeling cold and decided on a lazy day under a blanket. After Wordle, coffee and a massage, I spent the morning watching TV.
At 11:30, I warmed two croissants with butter and jam. I spent the afternoon researching places I will visit on my Hawaii and Alaska cruise and booked a short guided tour in Skagway.
In the evening, I binge‑watched Almost Paradise before going to bed at midnight.
Thursday, 28th March
I woke at 07:30, had a massage and coffee, then did Wordle. I decided to upgrade my seats for the long flights on my cruise and did it through the KLM website.
After taking rubbish out, I went to Mercadona on my disability scooter. The wind was strong, and I was glad I didn’t have to walk. On the way home, the wind slowed the scooter down. Awnings outside cafés looked ready to take off.
I had planned to visit the Medieval Market but stayed inside because of the wind. I watched TV and read about my upcoming holiday. I learned that passengers on American cruises hide decorated toy ducks around the ship for others to find. I’ll keep an eye out for them.
I went to bed at 22:30 but was woken twice — once by fireworks and once by a kid on a very noisy motorbike.
Friday, 29th March
The sun was out and the wind had dropped. After tablets, coffee and Wordle, I showered and shaved before meeting Liz at Buena Vista for breakfast. I had a headache and knee pain, so I left early to take a painkiller.
Back home, I sat in my massage chair and then tried the Omo app I’m testing for a week. It scans barcodes and logs food easily. It also links to my Fitbit. I spent a while adding items to see how good or bad they were.
The painkiller knocked me out, and I slept for a while. I had a chicken burger for lunch and logged it. In the evening, I had a ham, cheese and tomato roll and half a large bag of crisps. I scanned the crisps and was shocked to see the whole bag had nearly 1,000 calories. I only ate half, but it was still a lot. I’ll stop buying crisps.
I played The Bard’s Tale on my laptop before bed. I was woken twice in the night — once by a loud car radio and once by Easter celebrations.
Saturday, 30th March
I woke to grey skies but watched them clear to blue. I was still fasting, so I only had water until 08:30. Then I had orange, lemon and carrot juice with water, took my tablets and had a massage while watching the news.
As I walked around my bed, my knee gave way. I put my hand out to steady myself and landed on my reading glasses, snapping both arms off. They can’t be repaired, so I’ll have to use my cheap Chino glasses until the opticians reopen after the holiday.
I went to the bank and then walked around the Medieval Market with my mini video camera strapped to my chest. The footage looked fantastic when I checked it later.
I spent the evening watching football and playing The Bard’s Tale. I stayed warm inside instead of going out to watch the parade and went to bed at 22:30.
Sunday, 31st March
I slept well and put washing on before checking messages. When my fast ended, I made a cheese, ham and mushroom omelette and logged it in the Omo app.
The weather was changeable — grey, windy and threatening rain. I stayed inside and washed clothes on a lower heat to reduce wrinkles. I hung them on my new washing line.
In the afternoon, I experimented with video editing software. The free Adobe tools are fine, but the Microsoft editor is just as good. I’ll use both.
For dinner, I had homemade bolognese with chips. In the evening, I watched Manchester City vs Arsenal. It finished 0–0. City had more possession, Arsenal had more attempts, and a draw was fair. Liverpool will be happiest as they stay top with nine games left.
I felt exhausted and went to bed at 21:30.
