Location: NCL Spirit — Pacific Ocean → Alaska
Summary: A peaceful week at sea crossing the Pacific, followed by the excitement of arriving in Alaska. Whale watching, bear spotting, helicopter flights, glaciers, brothel history and breathtaking scenery made this one of the most memorable weeks of the trip.
Monday, 29th April
Today was the third of five sea days as the NCL Spirit continued sailing across the Pacific Ocean towards Alaska. A calm and relaxing day onboard.
Tuesday, 30th April
Today was the fourth of the five sea days on the journey to Alaska. Another quiet day enjoying the ship and the long ocean crossing.
Wednesday, 1st May
Today was the final sea day of the Pacific crossing. After five days at sea, I was looking forward to reaching Alaska in the morning.
Thursday, 2nd May
I woke up in Icy Strait Point, Alaska. In the morning, I went whale watching, and in the afternoon, I joined an escorted tour to look for bears. A fantastic day surrounded by wildlife and stunning scenery.
Friday, 3rd May
Today, I woke up in Juneau. I had been looking forward to my helicopter ride to the Mendenhall Glacier and walking on it. An unforgettable experience.
Saturday, 4th May
I woke up in Skagway and went on an escorted tour. I was shown around the town by Madame Shirley Wood from the Red Onion Brothel. A fun and fascinating look at Skagway’s colourful history.
Sunday, 5th May
Today was a sea day as we sailed to see Endicott Arm and the Dawes Glacier. The scenery was spectacular, with icebergs, waterfalls and towering cliffs.
