Journal: Week 24 2024

Location: Marrakech → Los Alcázares

Summary: A week filled with unforgettable adventures in Morocco,  hot‑air balloons, camels, quad bikes, desert dinners and the Medina, followed by a return home, new kitchen purchases, website work, football and a calm weekend.

Monday, 10th June

Today was our third day in Marrakech, and it was fantastic. We started very early with a hot‑air balloon ride over the Agafay Desert. The views were incredible and it was a magical experience.

Tuesday, 11th June

Another amazing day in Morocco — my favourite of the trip. We went back to the Agafay Desert, rode camels, went quad biking, had dinner in the desert and watched a show before returning to the Riad. A perfect day.

Wednesday, 12th June

We had a relaxed morning at the Riad before heading to the airport for our flight back to Spain. A calm end to a brilliant trip.

Thursday, 13th June

After a long day yesterday, I was surprised to wake at 06:30. I got coffee and checked my messages. Inspired by the food in Marrakech, I ordered new kitchen items from Amazon — a cast aluminium stone pan and two sets of silicone spatulas. One order arrives tomorrow, the other on Sunday.

I worked on my website, adding a new Morocco photo album section and editing photos. I had chicken for dinner, worked until 21:00 and then watched TV until bed at midnight.

Friday, 14th June

I woke at 07:30 when the builders started. After coffee, I checked messages and received an email from the man in Morocco who filmed and photographed our balloon ride. He sent me the edited video and photos, which I downloaded.

I completed my tax return form and sent it to my accountant, then continued editing photos from the Riad and setting up albums for the rest of the trip. My new pan arrived, and I was delighted with it.

I had chicken and chips for a late lunch and worked until 20:30, when I watched the opening match of the UEFA European Championship — Germany vs Scotland. I couldn’t get into it and spent most of the evening looking up new travel ideas and recipes. I went to bed at 23:30.

Saturday, 15th June

I woke early, had coffee and did Wordle before making porridge with dried fruit, blueberries and protein powder. I spent the whole morning working on photos for the Jardin Majorelle album. I hadn’t realised how many I had taken.

At 14:30, I walked to Buena Vista to meet Kevin and Gaynor, who wanted details about Marrakech. We chatted for an hour about the Riad, the Medina and what to expect.

Back home, I worked on my website until the Spain vs Croatia match started. Spain won 3–0 and looked strong. Later, I watched Italy vs Albania. Albania scored after 23 seconds — the fastest goal in the competition’s history — but Italy won 2–1. I went to bed as soon as the football finished.

Sunday, 16th June

I woke at 07:00, stripped my bed and put the linen in the washing machine. I had no milk, so I showered and walked to Aldi for a few bits. The storm overnight had cleared the air, and it felt much fresher.

Back home, I had porridge with dried fruit, blueberries and protein powder. I finished typing my notes for last Sunday’s Marrakech entry and had a salad for lunch at 14:30.

I spent the afternoon watching the UEFA European Championship. Poland were unlucky to lose to Holland. I fell asleep during Slovenia vs Denmark. I watched Serbia vs England — England started well and deserved their 0–1 lead, but the second half was poor. Serbia will feel unlucky not to get a point.

As soon as the match finished, I went to bed and fell asleep quickly.
