Location: Los Alcázares, Murcia, Spain
Summary: A week of physiotherapy, swims in the Mar Menor, website work, plant repotting, delivery frustrations, brunch with friends, and the sad news of losing a cousin. Your knee improved, your routine stayed busy, and Plaza de Espejo continued to test your patience at night.
Monday, 5th August
I woke, had a coffee and worked on my website. My knee hurt a little but not much. I meant to swim, but when I looked up it was already 11:30, so I took rubbish to the bins and went to meet Martin at La Sombre. I sat with Martin, Dave and Terry until 14:20, then rode to the clinic for my second physiotherapy session.
The nurse massaged my knee, then used electromagnetic therapy, which made my foot fall asleep, and finished with electrotherapy. She did not give me another appointment, so I assumed the treatment was finished. I went to Economy Cash for groceries, then home to cool down with the air conditioning. I watched TV but could not keep my eyes open and went to bed at 21:30.
Tuesday, 6th August
I woke at 04:00, went back to sleep and woke again at 08:45. I had two coffees and checked my messages. Martin messaged, so I met him at Buena Vista for coffee and a tostada. The service was slow, and it took ages to get the bill.
Back home, I charged the battery for my electric bike and repaired the split hose on my balcony. I washed some pots ready for repotting plants. As it got hotter, I closed the doors, put the air conditioning on and worked on my website. At 14:30, I had boiled eggs with salad, then worked until 22:30.
Wednesday, 7th August
I woke at 06:45, had coffee and went for a swim. The sea was cloudy but calm, and there were hardly any jellyfish. After swimming, I repotted plants on my balcony, using stones for drainage and cactus soil on top. I shaved my head and went inside to cool down.
I checked Arsenal transfer news, then walked to Thai Aroi for the Menú del Día. The food was good, but every dish was chicken, and they charged €2 for a small bottle of water. I walked home, fell asleep in my massage chair and later looked at things to do locally. I considered seeing Cirque du Soleil in Alicante, but the hotel prices were ridiculous, so I decided to save the money for Japan. I went to bed at 23:00.
Thursday, 8th August
I woke, checked messages and failed Wordle for the first time in 38 days. I walked to the Mar Menor for a swim. The water was very clear, but there were thousands of jellyfish. They are harmless, but brushing against them makes me jump. I took a long route to avoid the big clusters.
After swimming, I showered and had ginger, peach and lemon tea. I went out for milk and bread, then repotted another cactus and added shells to another plant. I ran out of shells, so I will collect more tomorrow.
For lunch, I had a burger in a French stick. I worked on my website all afternoon, adding structured data to many pages. I had cereal for dinner and went to bed at 23:00.
Friday, 9th August
I woke a few times in the night but got up at 07:30. I had coffee, checked messages and went for a swim to collect more shells. The water was cleaner, and I saw some big fish and lots of jellyfish. After showering, I had a protein and cherry drink and cereal.
I received an email from my insurance agent saying the physio had asked if I was returning. I told her I had not been given more appointments. I hoped there were more sessions because the first two had helped a lot.
At lunchtime, I still had not heard back, so I went to the clinic. The receptionist found my appointment sheet and told me the physio had expected me every day but had forgotten to tell me. I cancelled lunch with Lisa and returned at 14:40 for my session.
On the way, I found a toy dog outside ATime4AChange and handed it in. I briefly saw Deeana and Ali before heading to the clinic. The physio gave me electrotherapy, electromagnetic therapy and cold gel massage. She told me to return Monday and that I had seven more sessions.
I went home to my cool apartment and spent the evening looking at trips for my birthday. I want somewhere warm and easy to get around.
Saturday, 10th August
I woke at 07:00, had coffee and read a message from a cousin asking about another cousin’s health. Sadly, it seemed he had passed away, although none of us had heard. It reminded me to enjoy life while I can.
I worked on my website all day, stopping to watch Leeds vs Portsmouth. Portsmouth drew 3-3, having been outplayed but leading twice. I worked until midnight because Plaza de Espejo was loud again. The music stopped at 23:30, and I went to bed once my ears stopped ringing.
Sunday, 11th August
I put washing on and worked on the Bucket List section of my website, updating pages and adding videos. I then received confirmation that my cousin had passed away a few weeks ago. I remembered him coming to an Arsenal game with me years ago. He bought an Arsenal scarf to blend in, then gave it to me afterwards because he was actually an Everton fan. RIP Michael.
I stopped at 12:30 to get ready for lunch with Debbie. My wall clock had stopped, and it was already 14:13. I messaged Debbie and Mike, then raced to Campbell’s on my disability scooter, arriving just after 14:30. Debbie was still there, and we had roast lamb. I had Bailey’s cheesecake, although Debbie pinched some.
We sat in the garden chatting before heading home. I put my scooter on charge and fell asleep in my massage chair. In the evening, I worked on my website and chatted with my sister about our cousin. I also spoke with Lisa about future trips. I went to bed at 01:00.
