Journal: Week 40 2024

Location: Los Alcázares, Murcia, Spain

Summary: This week I spent a lot of time working on my website and genealogy, dealt with endless frustration from Celeritas, sorted out my holiday documents, returned a faulty printer, enjoyed some good food and watched Arsenal win again. I also made soup, caught up with friends and kept preparing for my upcoming trip.

Monday, 30th September

I was up early, had a coffee and spent the entire day working on my website and family tree while waiting for Celeritas to collect the printer. They had promised to come between 07:00 and 22:00, but they never turned up. I was fuming. I emailed them to complain and told them I would not be home tomorrow. I went to bed at 23:00.

Tuesday, 1st October

I woke at 07:00, had coffee and did Wordle. At 10:00, I went to Password to check on my external hard drive. The man said he would look at it in the next few days.

I tried to meet Martin for coffee, but we ended up waiting at different banks. Eventually, we met at Buena Vista, but they could not make coffee because the water was turned off. After a chat, we went to the office and sat with Dave until Aria returned from school.

Just before I left, Celeritas messaged saying they had called and I was out, even though they were told I would not be home today. I was getting very annoyed with them.

I went to Rio Nalon to see the building work, chatted with Wayne, then had a pint at Rocco’s and another at Henry’s. I went home to get ready to watch the Arsenal game in a pub, but my taxi never arrived. I walked to a local bar, but they did not have the game on, so I walked home. Luckily, my TV box worked again. I fell asleep and woke at halftime. Arsenal won 2-0. I went to bed afterwards.

Wednesday, 2nd October

I woke at 08:00 and used my last coffee pod. I hoped Celeritas would come early. I asked Bob if he could change my lights today, and he said yes.

I spent the morning waiting for Celeritas and doing genealogy. Bob came in the afternoon and swapped the broken light, then installed my new fan light. After tidying up, I went back to my research. Celeritas never came. I went to bed at 23:00.

Thursday, 3rd October

I woke at 07:00 and had to settle for water because I had not been out shopping. Celeritas messaged again claiming they had tried to collect the printer yesterday. They had not. I sent another strongly worded message.

I weighed myself and discovered I have lost 9 kilos in the 16 weeks since returning from Marrakech. I hope I keep losing weight on holiday.

I had pork ribs for lunch, then phoned Nationwide to request a new PIN. The man was helpful, but I doubt it will arrive before I go away.

I gave up waiting for Celeritas and cancelled the return. I arranged to take the printer to the post office instead. I checked the box size and realised I could carry it on my disability scooter.

I also reported a leak in the garage to the management company. In the evening, I felt drained and binge‑watched Star Trek Voyager. Season one was awful, but season two has started well. I watched TV until midnight.

Friday, 4th October

I woke at 08:00, showered and did Wordle. I took the printer to the post office. The woman who used to be miserable and rude has completely changed. She was polite, friendly and even chatty. It was a pleasant surprise.

I went to Estribor for coffee and tostada, then back to Password. The man confirmed the hard drive was dead. I told him I would bring him a bag of old computer equipment next week.

I bought A4 paper from the stationery shop behind La Encarnación. It was cheaper than Amazon. I went home, had tortilla and coffee, then worked on my website and genealogy until 14:00. After lunch, I continued until 19:00.

For dinner, I had red fish fillets. They were okay but nothing special. I received my holiday documents by email and printed everything off. I worked on my website until 23:00.

Saturday, 5th October

I woke at 06:00, had coffee and did Wordle. I put washing on and worked on my website. At 09:45, I walked to Buena Vista for breakfast. I had an English breakfast and coffee while reading my Kindle. The bill was higher than the menu price, but I paid it anyway.

I went home, did more washing and watched Arsenal vs Southampton. Arsenal were poor in the first half and went 0-1 down, but came back to win 3-1. They still need to be more clinical.

I watched TV until midnight and then went to bed.

Sunday, 6th October

I woke at 07:00, had coffee and cleaned my washing machine properly for the first time. I cleaned the seals, emptied the drain and ran a hot cycle with cleaner.

I had porridge and then worked on my website before switching to genealogy. I made a breakthrough on the Davies branch. I found a link between the Lewis family and a Davies family from Tremain, Wales. Many names match, so I hope Maria Davies is somewhere on that branch.

I watched some football but kept returning to my research. When my eyes got sore at 22:00, I turned everything off and went to bed.
