Journal: Week 44 2024

Location: Los Alcázares, Murcia, Spain

Summary: This week I settled back into life at home after Japan, caught up on sleep, worked on my website and genealogy, enjoyed a brilliant curry night with friends and even booked my next big adventure. I also did a huge clear‑out for charity, dealt with Amazon deliveries and watched plenty of football.

Monday, 28th October

I woke at 06:00 and got up at 06:30. I put old bed linen in the washing machine to donate to charity, then had cereal and coffee before doing Wordle. I spent the morning working on my website and family tree.

At midday, Dave picked me up for the office. Martin was already there, and we chatted until Aria arrived from school. Dave dropped me home, and we arranged a lift for curry night tomorrow.

I had toasted cheese and ham for lunch, fell asleep for forty minutes and spent the evening doing genealogy.

Tuesday, 29th October

I slept well and got up at 07:30. After coffee and cereal, I edited more Tokyo photos. Amazon delivered my regular sheets today, and the pillowcases should arrive tomorrow.

At 19:00, Dave picked me up. We collected Martin and met the others at Trebol before going into Massala Cottage. Paul, Mike, Bernard, Colin and Bob joined us. We had a brilliant evening with great food and conversation. I had fish pakora and lamb Rogan Josh.

After dinner, Dave dropped Martin at the office and then took me home. I watched TV for a bit and went to bed full and happy.

Wednesday, 30th October

I woke at 08:00 after a good sleep. My cold has cleared, and the jet lag has finally gone. I worked on my Japan photos all morning and started looking at future holidays. I remembered how well organised my China trip was in 2014 compared to Japan.

I looked at JustYou holidays and found a Spirit of India tour with an Amritsar add‑on for February 2025. There was one space left, and my passport timing worked, so I booked it. They called to check my mobility and said they would confirm flights tomorrow.

In the evening, I watched Preston vs Arsenal. Arsenal won 0-3, and everyone came through it fine. I went to bed afterwards.

Thursday, 31st October

I checked emails and did Wordle. JustYou had not replied yet. Jim messaged, so I met him at Buena Vista for coffee and a tostada. After he left, I took recycling out and went to Mercadona for groceries.

I cleaned my fridge before putting the shopping away. Lottie messaged inviting me to lunch with her and Alison at 14:00. We met at Buena Vista, moved to a sunny table and I had chicken korma with rice. It tasted good but was not very hot.

JustYou called back and confirmed my place on the India trip. I paid the deposit. I then booked trains, hotels in Madrid and Heathrow and sorted all the travel arrangements. I watched TV and went to bed at 22:00.

Friday, 1st November

I woke at 07:00, had coffee and did Wordle. I spent the morning working on photos. Los Alcázares council are collecting donations for people affected by the Valencia floods, so I cleared out my wardrobes. I filled three bags of clothes, two bags of bed linen and added two pairs of trainers.

I took rubbish and recycling out, then visited Vince. We walked to an Italian café and tried non‑alcoholic beer, which was surprisingly good. Another man joined us and talked a lot, but he was pleasant enough.

Back home, I cooked steak with mushrooms, fried potatoes and an egg. Later, I had the second piece of steak in a salad bowl. I worked on my website and went to bed at 22:00, although the screaming child upstairs delayed my sleep until 22:30.

Saturday, 2nd November

I woke at 07:00, had coffee and did Wordle. I put washing on and had a protein shake with banana and blueberries. I changed my bed linen to the new set, which looked great. I cleared the floors and set Peggy off to hoover.

I watched Newcastle vs Arsenal. Newcastle deservedly won 1-0. It was the worst Arsenal performance I have seen in years.

In the evening, I added more Japan photos to my website.

Sunday, 3rd November

I woke at 07:00, had coffee and did Wordle. For breakfast, I had bacon, beans, mushrooms and Spanish tortilla with green tea. I spent the morning adding more Japan photos to my website.

I had chicken and salad for lunch, then watched football while doing genealogy. I cheered for Tottenham and Manchester United to help Arsenal. Tottenham helped, but Arsenal still dropped from third to fifth.

I watched TV in the evening, ordered more bedsheets and pillowcases from Amazon and went to bed at 22:00. I hope my mojo returns soon.
