Summary: This week I kept myself busy with website work, genealogy, meeting friends for coffees and meals, sorting out household appliances and getting my flu jab. I also dealt with cold mornings, back pain, Amazon deliveries and a few early starts, but I still managed to enjoy good company, good food and some breakthroughs in my family tree.
Monday, 11th November
I woke at 08:00, showered and had a coffee before working on my website. At 10:00, I went to the doctor’s surgery for my flu jab. I was seen within ten minutes. Afterwards, I went to Mercadona for a few bits and then to Marinocio to meet Debbie. We had coffee and tostadas while chatting.
I then met Martin and Dave at La Sombre. Aria joined us after school, and Kate arrived back from Prague. When I got home, I charged my scooter and cooked a chicken thigh with salad. I spent the evening under a blanket, watching TV and working on my website until midnight.
Tuesday, 12th November
I woke at 05:30 and got up at 06:15. After coffee, Wordle and breakfast, I worked on my website. I trimmed my bamboo plant and brought it inside before the cold damaged it.
At 11:45, I took an old printer to the garage and then caught the bus to Los Narejos. I met Martin and Kate at La Sombre, and Dave joined us. At 13:30, I walked to a Portuguese restaurant in The Oasis to meet Frouk and Reinder. I had vegetable and potato soup, shredded chicken with egg and salad, and a delicious meringue.
Reinder drove me home. I had a siesta and spent the evening doing genealogy.
Wednesday, 13th November
After coffee, Wordle and porridge, I rode along the beachfront on my scooter and went to the pharmacy for tablets. I worked on my website all morning, then walked to Avenida Café to meet George and Yvonne. We chatted for a couple of hours.
Back home, I sat under a blanket to warm up. Amazon had refunded a return, so I ordered new pillowcases, a toaster and a microwave. All items will arrive together on Friday.
Thursday, 14th November
I woke at 03:30 and could not get back to sleep. After coffee and Wordle, I went to Mercadona. On the way, I saw Bob working with his little train. I told him about the strange noise my scooter makes, and he said he would check it next Tuesday.
I bought more shopping than expected and needed extra bags. I was grateful for the lift working again because my knee hates stairs in cold weather. I spent the afternoon and evening working on my website.
Friday, 15th November
I woke at 06:30, fell asleep again and finally got up at 09:30. I tidied the kitchen and made space for the new microwave and toaster. I removed the old microwave and sorted out appliances to sell, including an ice cream maker and a three‑level steamer.
My Amazon deliveries arrived at midday. I unpacked everything and tested the toaster. I searched online for an English manual for the microwave because the included one had eleven languages but not English.
I used the microwave for the first time in the evening and was very impressed. It was quicker than my old one, and the grill browned the food nicely. I went to bed at 22:00.
Saturday, 16th November
I woke at 05:00 and remembered the Tyson vs Jake Paul fight was on at 05:30, so I made a coffee and watched it. The women’s fight before it was brutal, with one fighter repeatedly leading with her head. The Tyson fight was disappointing. Tyson edged the first two rounds, but Paul won the rest. It was sad seeing Tyson shuffle around the ring.
In the afternoon, I did genealogy and made a breakthrough on my great‑great‑great‑grandfather Henry Benjamin Warner and his parents.
In the evening, I walked to Harry’s Bar and chatted with Andy and Wayne before meeting Debbie at Sibarit. We later had dinner at El Patio II. My sirloin steak with Roquefort sauce was excellent. After drinks at Rocco’s, I walked Debbie to the taxi rank, but no taxis were available, so she walked home. I had a last beer at Harry’s and walked home, arriving just after 23:00. I put the heating on and went to bed.
Sunday, 17th November
I woke at 08:00, had my last coffee capsule and sat in my massage chair with my feet raised. My legs were aching from yesterday’s walking.
I spent the entire day doing genealogy and made more progress on the Warner branch, discovering my 4th and 5th great‑grandfathers. I watched England vs Ireland but missed most of it because I was focused on research. England won 5-0.
I kept working until my eyes were sore and went to bed at midnight.
