Journal: Week 49 2024

Location: Los Alcázares, Murcia, Spain

Summary: This week I walked more than usual, cooked plenty of homemade meals, met friends for coffees and lunches, dealt with paperwork and appointments, and made more progress on my website and genealogy. I also binge‑watched Blindspot, battled cold mornings, and enjoyed a mix of good and frustrating football.

Monday, 2nd December

I woke late at nearly 09:00, got a coffee and did Wordle before restoring some of the website work I lost over the weekend. I rang Dave for a lift, but he was at the hospital, so I went to the office on my disability scooter. Martin was also late, so I got away with it.

We chatted until 14:30. On the way home, I stopped at J&G for a quick beer. Back home, I had lamb for dinner followed by homemade apple and raisin crumble with custard. I fell asleep in my chair, woke an hour later and worked on my website until 20:00. I started watching Blindspot and watched four episodes before bed. It was brilliant.

Tuesday, 3rd December

I woke at 06:00, had coffee and did Wordle before adding details about my newly discovered 3rd great‑grandmother, Mary Hughes. I walked to the office and stopped at Café Verdilli for a coffee with Steve. I met Martin and Dave afterwards, and we talked about travelling the world and what we would do if we won the lottery.

Dave dropped me in Los Alcázares, and I went to J&G for a quick beer. It turned into a long session of chatting with friends and strangers. Clara offered to translate for me at the health centre tomorrow. I left after 21:00, slightly wobbly, and was glad of my walking stick. I watched more Blindspot and went to bed at 23:00.

Wednesday, 4th December

I had coffee without milk because I had run out. I met Clara at Avenida Café, then we went to the health centre. They told me I needed an updated Padron, so I will have to get one from the council office.

I walked to La Playa bar to meet Wayne. The coffee was awful. Karen and Colin passed by, and we chatted about their upcoming Alaska cruise. Wayne arrived, and we went to Casa de Papel, but it was closed, so we went to Ramón’s instead. The veal stew starter was excellent, but the chicken main was disappointing.

We went to J&G for pool and beer. Andy and Sandra joined us. My eyesight let me down, and Wayne won both games. I walked home along the beachfront, put the heating on and watched Blindspot before the Arsenal vs Manchester United match. Arsenal won 2-0 with two goals from corners. I tried to sleep but couldn’t, so I watched more Blindspot.

Thursday, 5th December

I stayed in my chair all night watching Blindspot and only slept for a couple of hours between 07:00 and 09:00. I stayed in my pyjamas all day, watched TV and dozed on and off. I went to bed at 22:00 hoping for a proper sleep.

Friday, 6th December

I woke at 07:30 feeling much better. I made a baked egg and cheese toast in the air fryer and had jasmine and peach green tea. My legs were still sore from walking earlier in the week, so I took it easy.

I tried to make carrot and orange soup, but the carrots were mouldy again. Instead, I made Moroccan chicken with coriander, potatoes and rice. It was delicious, and I saved some for tomorrow. I spent the evening watching TV and doing genealogy.

Saturday, 7th December

I woke at 07:30, stripped my bed and did Wordle. I went to Mercadona for groceries but forgot the onion, so I walked to the small Asian shop to buy one. For lunch, I made toasted chapati rolls with cheese, ham and ranch dressing. They were excellent.

I binge‑watched Blindspot again. Before bed, I realised I had not made my bed, so I put fresh linen on and went to sleep around 22:00.

Sunday, 8th December

I woke at 08:30, had coffee and cereal and did Wordle. I finally made the carrot, coriander and orange soup. It tasted fantastic. I had a bowl with two roasted lamb chapatis and was stuffed.

I watched the Fulham vs Arsenal match but had read the start time wrong and turned it on at halftime. Arsenal equalised but had a late winner disallowed for offside. The game finished 1-1. I don’t think Arsenal will catch Liverpool now unless they buy a proper centre forward in January.

I watched Blindspot instead of the Tottenham vs Chelsea match. I am now on series three and completely hooked. I watched TV until 23:00 and went to bed with the heater on.
