Location: Los Alcázares, Murcia, Spain
Summary: A windy, stormy week filled with long walks for coffee, good company, Chinese food, website work, football highs and lows, and the small comforts of home. I settled back into my routines after India, enjoyed time with friends, and kept myself busy with photos, games and TV.
Monday, 3rd March
I woke around 07:00, checked my emails, did Wordle and had porridge before settling into more holiday photo editing. By 09:30, I decided to walk to Café Prensa. The wind made the walk slow, and by the time I arrived an hour later, I was puffing like a steam train. We chatted about the usual nonsense, including the ongoing circus in American politics.
Just after midday, I walked to The Corner Bar to meet Martin and Dave. Aria arrived from school and made us laugh when she took a sip of Martin’s beer. Normally she spits it out in disgust, but today she liked it and took a big gulp. After Dave left, he dropped me at Rio Nalon, and I wandered into Rocco’s for a beer, chatted with Rachid, then moved on to Harry’s.
On the way home, I stopped at Hong Kong Chinese and bought enough food for two days. Storm warnings were in place, and I did not fancy getting caught out in the rain. I ate one meal, saved the other for tomorrow, watched TV and played a few games before going to bed at 22:00.
Tuesday, 4th March
I slept well and woke at 07:00. After cereal, I walked to Café Prensa again. The winds were even stronger, and it took me an hour to get there. I sat with Steve, then Steve and Bev joined us. We chatted until 11:15.
I wanted to get Martin back into Pizzeria La Sombre, so I arrived early and ordered two beers at our usual table. The staff kindly set the table up for me even though they were not open yet. When Martin arrived, he had no choice but to sit down. Dave joined us, and it felt like old times.
Afterwards, Kate gave me a lift home and showed me how to open the razor heads on my new shaver. With my eyesight, I would never have figured it out. I ate the second Chinese meal and settled in for the football.
Arsenal blew PSV Eindhoven away, winning 1-7 in the Champions League. I had been worried they would get knocked out, but they were superb. I went to bed happy.
Wednesday, 5th March
Storm warnings continued, so I stayed home and worked on my website. I built new photo album pages for Abhaneri Stepwell, the Taj Mahal and Agra Fort.
In the evening, I watched PSG vs Liverpool. PSG were the better team, but Liverpool’s goalkeeper kept them in it. With only minutes left, Harvey Elliott came on and scored with his first touch. Liverpool won 1-0.
Thursday, 6th March
I woke late at 07:30, showered, did Wordle and had porridge before settling into more website work. Cecotec messaged to say my coffee machine had been repaired. I hoped they would actually tell me when they planned to return it.
By early afternoon, I took rubbish and recycling to the bins. I planned to get a coffee, but hunger won, so I bought rolls from Dia and made a chicken thigh sandwich at home. I spent the rest of the day under a blanket watching Grimm and went to bed at 22:00.
Friday, 7th March
I woke at 06:30 and edited more photos. I ordered new double walled glasses for my morning coffee and airtight containers for beans and sugar. Liz phoned to say she could not go to El Corte Inglés today, so we rearranged.
In the afternoon, Cecotec returned my coffee machine. It was good to have it back. For lunch, I went to El Buen Sabor and bought peppered pork with chips and a beef stew for dinner. Both meals were excellent.
I worked on my website until 20:00, ate the stew, watched TV and went to bed early.
Saturday, 8th March
I woke early and made my first coffee with the repaired machine. I stripped my bed, did washing and rode to Mercadona for groceries. I skipped fruit and vegetables, planning to get them at the Tuesday market.
After dropping the shopping home, I went to Café Prensa for coffee. My Amazon delivery arrived later, and I was pleased with the new glasses and containers. I spent the afternoon working on my website and binge watching Grimm.
Sunday, 9th March
I woke at 07:00 and worked on my website until Liz phoned to say she felt better and wanted to meet at Buena Vista. I walked along the beachfront, ordered coffee and read my Kindle until she arrived. We had another coffee and tostada and chatted for an hour.
In the afternoon, I watched Manchester United vs Arsenal. Arsenal were the better team but lacked a striker. United scored a great free kick just before halftime, and I switched off in frustration. I watched an episode of Grimm, then switched back to see Arsenal had equalised. The match ended 1-1, and I was glad when it was over. I watched more Grimm and went to bed at 22:00.
