Location: Los Alcázares, Murcia, Spain
Summary: I spent the week easing myself back into normal life after the hospital stay. I saw friends, kept up with my medical appointments, worked on my website, reorganised parts of my apartment, and enjoyed plenty of football. My ankle slowly improved, and I started to feel more like myself again.
Monday, 21st April
I slept very well and got up slowly before making a coffee and doing the Wordle puzzle. After checking my messages, I gathered the rubbish bags and went out on my disability scooter. I dropped rubbish in the bins, put a dressing gown into the clothes recycling, and then rode to Café Prensa. No one was there, so I went to Martin’s house to drop off a sofa leg, but he wasn’t home either.
I ended up at The Corner Bar, where I sat with friends and had a coffee. Martin and Aria arrived, and later we moved to Pizzeria La Sombre for a beer. Dave, Sean and Jez joined us, and we chatted for a couple of hours. Afterwards, I went to Harry’s bar, sat in the sun with a beer, and watched the world go by before heading home.
Back at the apartment, I made chicken rolls and watched TV. I fell asleep for a couple of hours, woke up, watched more TV and went to bed around 22:00.
Tuesday, 22nd April
I woke early, had a couple of coffees and did Wordle. Martin messaged, so I walked to Buena Vista for breakfast. I had two coffees and a tostada before heading home. Later, I rode to La Sombre to meet Martin and Dave. After a couple of hours, I went to the new café at the bottom of Rio Nalon, had a beer and chatted with people I knew. Andy stopped by for a chat too.
I then went to Harry’s for another beer, then to Rocco’s while waiting for the Chinese takeaway to open. At 18:00, I collected a meal for two from Hong Kong Chinese and took it home. I ate half and saved the rest for tomorrow. I worked on my website until midnight and noticed my laptop wasn’t charging, so I plugged it in to see if it would charge overnight.
Wednesday, 23rd April
My leg felt much better when I woke. After coffee and Wordle, I worked on my website until Liz arrived to take me to the clinic. The nurse was late, but once she arrived, she cleaned and redressed my wounds. The exterior ankle wound was still very painful. She booked me in again for Friday.
I went home to rest and worked on my website in the afternoon. In the evening, I watched Arsenal vs Crystal Palace. It finished 2-2. Arsenal didn’t look great, and both teams seemed content with a draw. I checked my laptop and found it still hadn’t charged, so I arranged a repair under my extended warranty. I went to bed soon after.
Thursday, 24th April
I woke early, had coffee and porridge, and stayed home waiting for an Amazon delivery. I worked on my website all day and finally realised that many of the errors I was seeing were from an old sitemap. Once I updated it, most of the errors disappeared.
The Amazon delivery arrived at midday — a tablecloth for my dining table. It looked good once I put it on. I tidied the apartment, packed my laptop into its box ready for repair, and spent the rest of the day fixing the remaining website errors. I went to bed around 22:00.
Friday, 25th April
I woke at 07:30, had coffee and porridge, and rode my scooter to Euronics to drop off my laptop. After that, I stopped for a coffee before heading to the clinic. I bumped into Lisa on her bike, and she told me she thought I had blocked her on Farcebook. I explained the ban and gave her my number again.
At the clinic, the nurse cleaned and redressed my wounds. She explained that the inner wound was muscular and the outer one was ligament damage, which is why it hurt more. She checked my blood pressure, which was high again. She consulted the doctor, gave me tablets, and made me wait 40 minutes before retesting. It had gone down, so she wrote me a prescription and booked me in again for Monday.
I went to the pharmacy, picked up the tablets and went home. I later discovered that drinking six shots of coffee before my appointment might have caused the high blood pressure. I worked on my website, wrapped myself in a blanket because I felt cold, and fell asleep for a while. In the evening, I explored new social sites like Mastodon and Minds before going to bed at 23:00.
Saturday, 26th April
I woke at 07:00 but didn’t get up until 08:00. After yesterday’s blood pressure scare, I skipped coffee and made Thai Ginger Oolong tea instead. I took my tablets, had a cooked breakfast, and put the dishwasher and washing machine on.
I rode to Economy Cash for iced tea, then spent time on the balcony tidying it. I got the water fountain running again, moved plants around, dismantled the table and tested my reclining deckchair. It was very comfortable, and I look forward to reading out there.
In the afternoon and evening, I continued reorganising my website and putting photo albums into modules.
Sunday, 27th April
I woke at 08:00, took my tablets and had porridge with walnuts, blueberries and honey. I watered the balcony plants and worked on my website. Around 11:30, I took a break and moved the glass tabletop to the garage cupboard. I sorted through boxes and separated cardboard, plastic and polystyrene for recycling.
Later, I went to Buen Sabor and bought two meals. I ate the chicken and chips in mushroom sauce for lunch and spent the afternoon sleeping and watching football. I watched Lyon Ladies vs Arsenal Ladies. Arsenal won 1-4, going through to the final 3-5 on aggregate.
In the evening, I wondered if stopping Omega 3 tablets months ago had contributed to my breathlessness. I looked up the benefits and decided to order a six month supply. I watched TV and went to bed around 22:30.
