Journal: Week 36 2025

Location: Los Alcázares, Región de Murcia, Spain.

Summary: A week filled with website work, nurse visits, Amazon deliveries, missing parcels, new furniture, football, and visa applications for next year’s Australia and New Zealand trip. I continued improving my website, dealt with frustrating delivery issues, enjoyed some meals out, and tried to stay cool while keeping busy with CIV VI, genealogy, and long walks.

Monday, 1st September

I woke up around 6:45 and got up to check my messages online. I had a bowl of cereal and then did the Wordle puzzle. Incredibly, my second guess today had the correct five letters but all in the wrong order. I managed to get the correct order on my next go, a one-under-par effort today.

I started working on the redirect links for my website this morning, and while doing so, I received a message from Amazon informing me that my new armchair would be arriving early and would be with me today. I finished updating the redirect links and then cleared the space in the lounge where I will be placing the new chair.

I worked on my website and surfed the Internet all afternoon while I waited for the delivery. It finally arrived at 18:45. When the delivery people dropped off the box, I unpacked it and began to put it together. It was fairly simple, and the instructions were easy to follow. It took me about an hour to assemble, and I was pleased with the result. It looked quite small next to my recliner, but it was only an armchair. It cost me €99, which is a lot less than a second-hand chair would have cost me locally. It will only be used occasionally, so I was happy with the purchase.

Today was transfer deadline day for English football teams. Arsenal managed to sign its eighth new player and also sold or loaned out five players. I feel the transfer season was a success, but only time will tell.

Before going to bed, I checked my Nationwide account in England to see if the money I had transferred on Friday via CurrencyFair had arrived. It had, and the money is now ready to pay for my Australia and New Zealand tour in January. I felt very tired tonight and went to bed at 22:00.

Tuesday, 2nd September

I got up at around 7:00 this morning. I had a shower and got ready to go to the health clinic to have my leg dressed. My appointment wasn't until after 10:00, so I worked on my website until I left at around 9:50.

I didn't have to wait long before I saw my regular nurse. She always makes me laugh when she sees my ankle after someone else has treated it. I don't always understand her Spanish, but her body language suggests she is never happy with anyone else's work. She gave the wound a good clean, redressed it, and made me an appointment for Thursday at midday.

After leaving the clinic, I went to the Buena Vista restaurant for breakfast. I sat outside in the sun, having a tostada with tomato and a couple of coffees. When I finished, I went back to my apartment.

I hadn't been home long when I received a message from Amazon informing me that one of my deliveries had arrived at EconomyCash. I went to pick it up, bought a couple of groceries, and retrieved the package. I was disappointed to see only one package. Amazon still hadn't delivered the one they attempted to deliver last Friday. I filed a complaint.

I then juiced a pack of baby beetroots and a pack of carrots. I had read that the combination was good for circulation and high blood pressure. The two packs made about 600 ml of juice. I put it in the fridge to cool before tasting it.

Later, I cooked some chicken wings in the air fryer and ate them while watching TV. I then had an online chat with Amazon customer service to sort out the missing delivery. They were useless and cut me off. I will wait to see what happens tomorrow.

Tonight I watched a few episodes of a series called Wild Cards. It is easy to watch, especially the leading lady, Vanessa Morgan, who is very attractive.

Wednesday, 3rd September

I gave up trying to sleep at about 00:45. I was wide awake, so I got up to work on my website. I went back to bed just after 03:00, hoping I would fall asleep.

I got back up at 09:30, had a drink, completed the Wordle puzzle, and resumed working on my website. At some point, my Amazon delivery arrived. The new towels were just what I needed, and the Skechers sandals I ordered were great and very comfortable. They replaced the pair Martin gave me last year, which had begun to wear thin.

I spent the rest of the day working on my website and finally got the comments section working correctly, which will allow people to leave comments on my blog. I also got the search box back up and running.

Thursday, 4th September

After getting up around 07:00, I had a drink and completed the Wordle puzzle before returning to work on my website.

My friend Frouk called around 10:30 to collect all the old towels and pillows I was donating to her for her cats or for the dog’s home where she volunteers. Just before midday, I went to the health clinic to have my leg dressed. It didn't take long, and it looked better again.

After returning home, I continued working on my website until the early evening. After eating, I fell asleep for a couple of hours in front of the TV. When I woke up, I answered a message from my cousin Peter, who wants to visit in October. The dates worked out fine, and he will confirm his flights later.

I continued working on my website until around 23:00 and then went to bed.

Friday, 5th September

I got up at 07:00, completed the Wordle puzzle, and continued working on my website. I again worked on the redirect links. This work seems never-ending, but the pages appear to be indexed correctly on Google now.

The porridge I ordered on Amazon arrived during the day. I rearranged a couple of pieces of furniture in the apartment and continued working on my website until I went to bed around 22:00.

Saturday, 6th September

I spent the entire day working on my website today. There was no Premier League football due to the international break, and I completely lost track of time while I was working.

Sunday, 7th September

After getting up, I had a cup of green tea and did the Wordle puzzle. At around 10:00, I went out on my disability scooter to get some milk and a couple of salads. When I got home, I continued working on my website.

This evening I realised that I still needed to arrange my tourist visas for my trip to Australia and New Zealand next year. Both countries require a visa, but obtaining one is very easy. I downloaded the visa apps for both countries onto my phone and sent off the applications and payments. Both countries use your phone to scan your passport and take your photo. The only difficulty was taking a photo for the Australian visa, as it wouldn't allow me to wear my glasses. The New Zealand visa was much easier.

The Australian visa cost A$20 (about €17), while the New Zealand one cost NZ$117 (about €55), of which NZ$100 was a tourist charge. The Australian visa was granted within 10 minutes. I went to bed before I received a reply from New Zealand.
