Summary: A week of recovery, new routines with the coffee machine, social meals, Wordle victories, website work, leg treatment concerns, hospital appointments, and a mix of good company, bad lifts, and improving health. Plenty of walking, chatting, and adjusting to life after dental surgery.
Monday, 27th October
I woke up around 6:30 today. I felt better after a good night's sleep, but my eyes were still a little sore. I checked my computer for messages, did the Wordle puzzle, and published last week's journal. I trimmed my beard and shaved my head, which was difficult with only one eye to judge the angles. After a long shower, I messaged the apartment management company to confirm whether the water was safe to drink again.
I went to the pharmacy but left because of the huge queue, then went to Mercadona for salad and milk. Afterwards, I met Martin and Dave at Pizzeria la Sombre. It was warm when the sun was out, but cold when clouds passed. My eye was sore, so I went home at 13:45.
The management company confirmed the water was potable again. I told John and Christine, then had a chicken roll and set up my new coffee machine. My first Café Latte was good, though I used too much milk. I’ll refine it over the week.
Pat picked me up at 19:00 for dinner with friends. Service at the Trebol bar was terrible, so we dragged a waitress out. At Masala Cottage, I had fish pakora and chicken korma, and they boxed up the leftovers for me. We toasted our friend Mike Maloney, who passed away last week. RIP Mike.
I forgot my takeaway in Pat’s car and messaged him. I was tired and went to bed at 23:00.
Tuesday, 28th October
I woke at 7:30 and tested the coffee machine again, adjusting the settings. Much better today. Wordle took me four attempts, and I got it by thinking of my niece Holly.
Pat messaged to say he had put my curry in his fridge and would drop it off later. I met Martin at the office, where Sean, Lou, Dave, Rob and others joined us. Terry arrived with a broken elbow but still had a beer.
Pat stopped by to tell his weekly joke. After Aria arrived from school, I went home and had a Texas salad. I watched TV all afternoon and ate last night’s leftover curry for dinner. I steamed milk for a Horlicks using the new machine. My eyes were sore, and I went to bed at 21:00.
Wednesday, 29th October
I slept well but was woken at 00:15 by loud youngsters under my window. I fell back asleep and woke at 6:45. I made coffee and did Wordle in four attempts. My Oura app revealed my chronotype: morning type, but not extreme.
Jim messaged saying he was trying to visit but had car trouble. I mailed two PostCrossing postcards, then went to the pharmacy for my prescription and mouthwash. The garage lift was broken again, so I parked my scooter outside and emailed the lift company.
I cooked chicken wings for lunch. Lauren messaged saying she had booked me a nurse appointment for tomorrow. I napped in the afternoon. Jim messaged again to say he’d pick me up Friday for breakfast.
I tried to go to EconomyCash, but my scooter battery died. Luckily, the lift was working again when I returned. I watched Arsenal vs Brighton in the Carabao Cup. Arsenal won 2-0 with goals from Nwaneri and Saka. Max Dowman, only 15, was brilliant. I went to bed straight after the match.
Thursday, 30th October
I woke at 7:30, had coffee, and got Wordle in two attempts. After a shower, I worked on my website until 12:30, then went to the health clinic.
The nurse had a trainee with her. When she removed the dressing, she said “Madre Mia.” The wound looked worse and had grown. Another nurse examined it, then the doctor came in and took photos. They discussed compression dressings, and the nurse applied one before making me a Monday appointment.
I went to Mercadona for fruit, fish, and soup ingredients. Back home, I researched media servers for storing my photos and videos. I spent the evening resting and channel surfing.
Friday, 31st October
I woke just after 6:00, made green tea, worked on my website, and did Wordle. Jim picked me up at 10:30, and we went to Kitchen 16 for breakfast. It was good, but I still prefer the Tipsy Thistle. We then went to Buena Vista for coffee.
Los Arcos hospital called with an unclear appointment message. I went to see Sophia at my insurance office, and she phoned the hospital for me. The clinic had sent photos of my wound, and the hospital wanted me to see a surgeon on Monday. I messaged Lauren, then checked bus times.
I watched “Eleanor the Great,” a sad but clever film. Jez sent me the kitchen quote, and I agreed. I ordered a new sink and a two-ring induction hob. Jez will install everything in early December. I watched another film and went to bed at 22:00.
Saturday, 1st November
I woke at 7:00, had coffee, did Wordle, stripped the bed, and put washing on. I walked along the promenade, but my knee popped out and became sore.
I downloaded the new version of Affinity and signed up for the AI trial. Lauren couldn’t take me to the hospital Monday, so I asked Andy, who agreed.
I watched Burnley vs Arsenal. Arsenal won 0-2 with goals from Gyökeres and Rice. Gyökeres’ absence in the second half showed how important he is.
Sunday, 2nd November
I got up at 7:30, had coffee, did Wordle, and worked on my website until 11:00. I cooked a full breakfast, then worked on photo album images. After creating a dozen, I deleted them all and replaced everything with a single consistent cover image.
I watched Manchester City vs Bournemouth. City won 3-1, but the match was closer than the score suggested.
