Journal: Week 22 2026

Location: Los Alcázares, Murcia, Spain.

Summary: Week 22 of 2026 captured a busy and varied few days in Los Alcázares, filled with website work, coffees with friends, errands around town, health‑clinic visits, and preparations for upcoming travels. From early mornings and long editing sessions to social meet‑ups, deliveries, and small daily frustrations, this week reflected the rhythm of everyday life on the Costa Cálida.

Monday 25th May

I woke up early today, around 06:45. I got up got a coffee and took a shower before sitting down in my armchair and beginning to work on my website for several hours.

At around 11:00 I decided to take a break and thought I would go to the coffee morning at the Garden Bar to see if I knew anyone there. I set off on my disability scooter and was there around 11:15. I got a coffee and slice of cake and sat in the shade in the garden. My friend Pat wasn't there, and I couldn't see Joan and Steve who I met last time I was there. I do find it strange that these mornings were set up so people could meet new people, yet whenever you go to one of the events everybody is sitting in their close-knit group guarding spare chairs in case any of their click who hasn't yet arrived arrives late. I stopped for long enough to finish my coffee and then got back on my disability scooter to go and see Martin at the office.

I arrived at Pizzeria la Sombre around 11:50, got a large bottle of water and sat down and waited for Martin. Martin and Dave arrived just after midday, and we were joined by Sean and a short time later by Terry We all sat talking and when Kate had picked up Aria from school, they also joined us. By 14:15 our little group had started dispersing, going to work, meet other people or as in my case, to get a bit of shopping before going home. I stopped at Mercadona and got some pork ribs that were on sale for less than €2.50, a bargain. Once I had the couple of things I wanted, I went straight home, cooked the ribs and had them as a late lunch early dinner.

I continued working on my website tonight and started reinstating the final 2025 journal entries to my website. While I was working, I had a message telling me I had missed the delivery that had come from ASDA and that they would try again tomorrow. I will have to make sure I wait in for it tomorrow.

Tuesday 26th May

I woke early again and after taking my tablets and filling up my monthly pill pot I sat down to work on my website again. I finished reinstating the 2025 journals and then began the long laborious job of going through the entries adding in links to other pages. I took a break around 10:00 and got myself of some muesli with an over ripe banana and some Greek yoghurt. I took a swig of my cough medicine and sat down to work again. I have noticed that the phlegmy coughing has lessened, and I hope that it will clear completely in the next few days.

At 13:00 my delivery still hadn't arrived, and I took a break from my website work to make lunch. I had a crispy chicken burger in a roll with mayonnaise and a bit of grated cheese mixed in with it. As I finished my roll my delivery arrived. I was very pleased with the new boxer shorts but not so pleased with the shorts. I had bought them for €24 a pair but they were labelled at only €16 a pair. I will complain about the price difference to see if I can get a refund.

I left my apartment and went to meet Martin at Pizzeria la Sombre. I arrived at around 13:30 and when I got there Martin, Dave and Rob were already there. We were joined after a while by Aria and Kate. We chatted and gradually people left to go home and after a couple of hours I left Martin and Aria to head home. As I went past Harry's bar it was just opening, and I popped in for a beer. I had a chat with Paul who worked there and arranged for him to take me to the airport on July 5th when I fly to Venice for a few days. After a couple of beers and chat with Paul I got a bottle of water and sat outside in the sun for a while before heading off home.

When I got home, I sat down and did some more work on my website and then watched a film, Killing Faith, it was quite good, but I fell asleep during it. When I woke up, I rewound the film and watched it from the bit I fell asleep at. It had nearly finished when the Internet when down at the worst possible time, with only minutes remaining and with me not knowing if the main characters lived or died. I tried to get the film back, but the Internet stayed down.

I went to bed at around 22:30 but didn't sleep particularly well. I found it difficult to get to sleep and was woken by people parking outside just after 23:30, they had the car radio turned up loud enough to wake a dead person. Luckily, they soon moved on, and I was able to fall asleep again.

Wednesday 27th May

I didn't sleep well last night and after falling asleep I woke up a couple of times during the night hot and sticky but able to slowly drift off again. It looks as if the summer has finally arrived and I may have to start using a fan to cool the room down at night while I sleep. As long as the chiringuito doesn't open up, causing lots of late-night early morning noise, I may even be able to sleep with the windows open.

I finally got up when my alarm went off at 07:30. I got up, washed dressed and began working on my website.  I also managed to complain to George at Asda about the price of the goods I bought. I did check and legally there is nothing I can do but I hope they will at least give me a credit note for the €16 I feel I was overcharged. At 09:30 I stopped working and walked to the Buena Vista bar for a coffee and tostada.

I ate my breakfast at Buena Vista, had a coffee and a green tea and finished the book I was reading on my Kindle. When I had finished, I stopped briefly at home before continuing to the pharmacy to get my remaining tablets. The pharmacist gave me double of what I needed which seemed strange as I had already had one lot, but I didn't complain, hopefully next month she will still give me my regular prescription amount. I paid for my tablets and walked home where I continued working on my website till lunch time.

For lunch I toasted half of the large oval ring cheese and ham roll I bought yesterday and put the remaining half back in the fridge for tomorrow. After finishing lunch, I used WhatsApp to call my uncle Dave and had a long chat with him before I continued working on my website. I did so much work on my website I lost track of time. I eventually stopped around 23:00 and went to bed.

Thursday 28th May

I didn't sleep very well last night because of a mix of heat and the noise of kids outside because I was trying to sleep with the windows open. At about 02:30 I closed the windows to shut out the noise and thankfully fell asleep. I woke at 07:30 when my alarm went off. I took my tablets did the Wordle puzzle and did some editing on my Costa Toscana cruise pages before going to the health clinic.

After last week's visit, I was hoping today would be my last visit to the health clinic. Unfortunately, the leg had been weeping in a new place. The old wound was healing nicely and a scab appeared to have healed over it but there was a red purple patch above it that looked sore. The nurse cleaned it and I suggested to here that the leg could be reacting to the glue in the plaster as that is where it seemed to be. She agreed it could be and after cleaning it she dressed it again but used dressing and a bandage so that there would be no sticky plaster affecting it. Afterwards she made me a new appointment to go back on Monday next week.

When I left the health clinic I went home to collect some shopping bags and then went to Mercadona to get some food. I bought the salad items I wanted and a cauliflower because I want to try making some cauliflower coated in herbs and air fried. If it works, I will add the recipe and photos of it to my website. I got a few other bits that I can store in the freezer and then went home.

When I got home, I put all the shopping away and toasted the leftover half of yesterday's cheese and ham roll to have as an early lunch. After eating it I continued working on my website completing the Costa Toscana pages and adding new pages for my short trip to Venice, Cruise to Cape Canaveral and my Caribbean Cruise next year for my 60th birthday.

This evening I ordered some stuff on Amazon, enough toilet rolls to last me a year and a resistance exercise band. Now my cold seems to be on its last legs, I have decided I can exercise more and try to get in shape before my next trip to Venice and Florida. When I went to bed I closed the windows so I wouldnt be disturbed by late nate kids in the square and turned the fan on to keep me a little cooler as I slept.

Friday 29th May

I slept well last night and woke up around 7:30 without the help of my alarm. I felt refresshed and ready for the day ahead. I got up, got a coffee, took my tablets, had a dose of the Royal Jelly Honey that I take and settled down at my computer to check messages and do the Wordle puzzle.

At around 9:30 I wrote out five postcarsd to send to epople around the world. I had got their names and address from PostCrossing. The postcards would be sent to Japan, Belarus, Germany, Finland and the USA. Once I had written them I jumped on my disability scooter and went along the Los Alcázares promenade to Correos and sent them out around the world. While there I also bought a lottery card and put it in my wallet, I would probably forget I bought it, hopefully I will win and get a nice surprise later in the year.

After leaving Correos I got back on my disability scooter and went to Los Narejos to have a coffee and tostada with my friends at a cafe there. I found them sitting at the back of the cafe and sat talking with Christinne, Steve, Bev and Teresa for an hour before leaving. On the way home I stopped at Mercadon to get some salad before going home.

Once home I continued working on my website. I wrote a short article about how I feerl about the money spent by war mongering leaders around the world. Who, it seems to me, seem more intersted in boosting their own name inhistory rather than feeding & housing the people they lord over. I worked on my website until I went to bed around 23:00.

Saturday 30th May

I woke up 10 minutes before my alarm went off at 08:00 today. It always amazes me that whatever time I set my alarm for each morning I always wake up 10 minutes before it goes off. I also know that if I hadn't set the alarm I would have probably slept later than I wanted to, it's a strange phenomenon. I got up and immediately sat at my computer, took my tablets and did the Wordle puzzle.

Once I had done the puzzle, I got ready for the rest of the day, washed, dressed and then continued to do some work on my website. Around 10:00 I walked to Buena Vista for breakfast. I had a medium size English cooked breakfast and a large coffee and sat reading a new book on my Kindle. When I had finished breakfast and my coffee, I had a green tea and carried on reading till my phone beeped and a message told me that the delivery from Amazon that was supposed to be arriving tomorrow was on its way. I paid and walked back to my apartment.

Because the Amazon delivery was on its way I didn't start work when I got home. I sat and watched TV until the delivery arrived. It arrived around midday. I would like to say I was surprised but I wasn't. The delivery had been split into two deliveries one part arriving today and the second tomorrow. It drives me up the wall when Amazon do this. I had asked for both deliveries tomorrow so that I wouldn't have to be at home on two separate days and they had arranged this but then split the delivery anyway. At least with this delivery I now have enough toilet paper for the next year. After putting the toilet paper away in a cupboard, I sat down at my computer and continued to work on my website.

I finished my work in time to watch the Arsenal vs PSG in the Champions League. Arsenal were big underdogs but took a 1-0 lead when Kai Havertz scored in the 6th minute of the game. They held the lead until the second half when they scored from a penalty. I didnt think it was a penalty and thought Arsenal were hard done by. The game finished 1-1 and in the penalty shoot out it went to the last of the initial 10 penalties and Arsenal missed the last penalty to give PSG the win. Well played  Arsenal you all did well, rest and go again, as Declan Rice said, Its not done.

I started working on my website again and finished to go to bed around 23:00.

Sunday 3st May

I woke up around 07:30, took my tablets and started working on my website.  Just before 10:00 I started out on my disability scooter to collect some honey I had ordered from a local apiarist. On my way to the collection point my phone started buzzing and when I looked, I had a couple of messages one from Amazon telling me my delivery was on the way and one from the man selling honey to tell me he was going to be late. I turned around and went home before Amazon left without dropping off my parcel.

When I got in, I got myself something to eat and checked my messages and saw I had missed a call from the apiarist. I messaged him to apologise for not collecting the honey and explained I had to get back for Amazon. I went back to work on my website, only stopping to answer the door when my resistance exercise band arrived from Amazon. I then went back to work only stopping again when I got hungry and I got myself a chicken burger sandwich.

I continued working in the evening, stopping work at a round 20:00 because my eyes were getting sore. I finished work and just lazed about watching rubbish on TV before having an early night going to bed around 22:00.
