Location: Atlantic Ocean.
Summary: A relaxed fourth day crossing the Atlantic on the Costa Favolosa, complete with quizzes, Baileys hot chocolate, a Costa Club ceremony, and an excellent acrobatic show.
I woke up around 07:00, showered, and headed to the buffet for breakfast. I wasn’t very hungry, so I kept it simple: cereal with fruit, yoghurt, milk, and a glass of orange juice. After breakfast, I made my way to the aft pool on Deck 9 and spent a few hours reading my Kindle in the sun.
Quizzes, Baileys & Hot Chocolate
At 11:00, I met Gail at the Palatino Grand Bar for the first quiz of the day. Before we started, she introduced me to a new mid‑morning ritual: hot chocolate with Baileys. It was excellent, dangerously so, and quickly became a regular pre‑quiz treat.
Darrel and Mal joined us, and we did well enough to reach a tiebreaker. Darrel gave us the answer, then immediately fled in case he was wrong. He wasn’t, and we won. The second quiz followed straight after, this time identifying national anthems played by brass bands. We only recognised one, but so did everyone else. The winning teams only got two right, so we didn’t feel too bad.
Lunch
At lunchtime, I went to the buffet and put together a nice salad, followed by pork chops, Chinese chicken in sweet and sour sauce, sweet potato, and vegetables. Everything was very good, and the view across a calm, blue Atlantic made it even better.
After lunch, I had a short siesta before heading to the main pool on Deck 10 to read for a while. I still had the bottle of fizzy wine I’d been given as a Gold member, so before the 16:30 quiz, I grabbed it from my cabin and took it with me.
Dwight, Tessa, Gail, and Darrel joined me, and as we opened the bottle, Mal appeared and happily accepted a glass before heading to his own team. We didn’t win anything, but we laughed more than any other team, which felt like a victory in itself.
Costa Club “Celebration”
After the quiz, I went with Rosa to the theatre for a Costa Club event. It turned out to be less of a show and more of a self‑congratulatory ceremony for passengers who had sailed enough to earn hats, certificates, and applause from people who hadn’t. If I’d earned one of those awards, I’d have been annoyed to be paraded in front of everyone like that. Rosa and I didn’t stay long, we slipped out and headed to the piano bar for a drink before dinner.
Dinner
Dinner tonight was excellent. I had parma ham with melon, asparagus soup, and beef with spinach and garlic herb butter on potatoes. When it came to dessert, I couldn’t decide between the three options, so I asked for all of them. The waiter didn’t blink and brought me a Brazilian bread and butter pudding, a milk chocolate cake, and a kiwi mousse. All three were delicious.
Entertainemt
After dinner, Rosa and I went to the theatre for the acrobatic show. It was brilliant, easily one of the best performances so far. One of the performers spun so many times while hanging from a rope above us that I got dizzy just watching her.
After the show, we went to the piano bar, listened to the music, and chatted until around 01:00 before finally calling it a night.
