Sailing the Atlantic: Day 6

A relaxed sixth day at sea with quizzes, cocktails, good food, and an early night before arriving in Brazil.

A Quiet Morning by the Pool.

I woke up around 07:00, showered, and headed straight to the aft pool. I grabbed a coffee and sat reading my Kindle until about 10:30, when I walked to the Palatino Grand Bar for the 11:00 quiz.

Gail and Mal joined me, and we did well, winning an ice cream in the first quiz and coming second after a tiebreak in the next.

Lunch and a Break from the Sun.

For lunch, I had carrot soup, a plaice fillet in almond butter sauce, and almond frangipane for dessert. Afterward, I went to a coffee bar to read my Kindle. I’d had too much sun the day before, and my back was a bit sore, so I stayed out of the heat for the afternoon.

Dance Lessons, Cocktails, and the Afternoon Quiz.

At 16:00, I headed back to the Palatino Grand Bar to see if Gail was doing the dance lesson. To my surprise, Darrel had joined in as well. I ordered a cocktail and settled down with my Kindle. Dwight and Tessa soon joined me, and when the dance class finished, Darrel and Gail came over too.

We didn’t win the quiz, but finishing mid‑table felt respectable considering we only started playing together on day three. We laughed a lot, and Gail and I enjoyed a few cocktails before we all headed back to our cabins.

Dinner With Friends.

At 19:00, I went to the restaurant, where Mal, Ann, Rosa, Darrel, Dwight, and Tessa joined me. I had a crab cake, chicken soup, veal stew in beer with potatoes and steamed vegetables, and an apple and pear pie with ice cream.

After dinner the theatre was hosting the final of The Voice competition, but after seeing the earlier rounds, and how badly run they were, I didn’t bother going. Instead, I had a few drinks in the piano bar, then moved to the quiet bar opposite for a couple more.

I went to bed fairly early, around 00:00, wanting to be rested for my excursion in Recife the next day.
