Location: Valencia, Spain.
Summary: After a bright morning in Valencia, the Costa Toscana eased away from the port and set course for Marseille. From the decks, the city’s skyline faded into the distance as the ship glided through calm Mediterranean waters. This leg of the journey marked the start of a scenic day at sea, sunshine, smooth sailing, and the promise of new adventures ahead.
Boarding the Costa Toscana
After taking a quick photo for my Costa Cruise ID card (linked to my credit card for onboard purchases and service charges), I found my cabin at the bow of the ship. The room was comfortable and perfectly positioned for taking in the sea views.
Exploring the Ship & Dining Highlights
I spent the afternoon walking the decks, discovering bars, restaurants, and entertainment venues. A refreshing beer helped me relax before attending the mandatory safety drill. Lunch at the buffet included sea bass, mashed potatoes, grilled vegetables, roast chicken, and two slices of cake.
Dinner was served at a different restaurant, where I enjoyed baked ham and a chicken fillet. I estimate walking nearly 8 kilometres around the ship today. An excellent way to explore and build an appetite.
Evening Cocktails & New Friendships
Later, I received a notice about my excursions; two were cancelled due to low participation among English-speaking travellers. I managed to reschedule one and cancelled the other. Dinner at 21:15 introduced me to my tablemates: Lynda and Michael, fellow travellers from the coach. We were later joined on the coach by Susan and Brian, also from our group.
We ended the night at the Colosseum bar, sipping cocktails and sharing stories until 1:30. My drink list included a Pina Colada, Mai Tai, Bahama Mama, two pints of beer, and three glasses of white wine. Safe to say, I slept soundly.
