The Jaipur Tour I Never Took.

A day lost to severe food poisoning, missing the planned Jaipur tour, and spending the day confined to the Ramada hotel.

Jaipur.

Today, I was supposed to explore places in and around Jaipur, including the Amer Fort, also known as Amber Fort.

Unfortunately, when I woke up this morning, I felt very unwell. I had spent the night running to the bathroom. I had been hit by food poisoning, most likely caused by the meal I’d eaten in Delhi as we left the city yesterday. I didn’t know whether to sit on the toilet or lean over it, as I was both sick and suffering from diarrhoea. I was throwing up so violently that I hurt my ribs and had to take painkillers to ease the pain.

I messaged our guide, Digamber, and told him I wouldn't be joining the rest of the party as they toured Jaipur. In the evening, I messaged him again to say I wouldn’t be making dinner and to explain how badly I had been feeling. He replied, asking whether I had any medicine, but when I said I didn’t, the only response I received was a reminder to have my case outside my room by 07:00 the next morning for our 08:00 departure. I was very disappointed that he didn’t check on me at any point during the day and apparently hadn’t told anyone else that I was ill.

I stayed in bed nearly all day, getting up only to throw up, let my bowels vent, or answer the door to an annoyingly persistent cleaner who refused to take no for an answer when I said I didn't want my room cleaned. I managed to sleep quite a lot and began to feel a little better as the evening drew in. I had gone from sprinting to the toilet to be sick to wondering whether my ribs had popped out and when the pain would finally end.

Where had I planned to see?

If I had not been ill, I would have taken a bus tour around Jaipur and visited the Amer Fort and the City Palace.

Ramada by Wyndham, Jaipur.

The hotel for my stay in Jaipur was the Ramada Jaipur, and because of my illness, it was the only thing I saw much of today.
