A quiet flight back to Delhi, an unexpected traffic‑jam mystery, and a final evening together at the Pride Plaza before the group began to part ways.
Varanasi to Delhi.
Today, we left Varanasi and flew to Delhi. We travelled to the airport by coach, and the journey must have been uneventful because I have no memory of it at all. After yesterday’s long day, I was probably still tired and slept most of the way.
Delhi.
After landing in Delhi, we boarded the coach and were driven to our hotel for the evening. I do remember that on the way from the airport, we became stuck in a large traffic jam. We were right behind an accident that had blocked both lanes of the dual carriageway. It looked as though one car had driven into the back of another just in front of us.
After waiting for a while, our driver and tour guide got out to take a look. From my seat, I could see the two cars, but what I hadn’t noticed was that the driver of the vehicle that had been hit had fled the scene. It was all very suspicious. Why would someone who wasn’t at fault run away? Were they drunk, under the influence of drugs, or was the car stolen? I would never know.
Our driver and guide spoke to nearby motorists, and after some discussion, they moved the damaged car aside so our coach and the rest of the traffic could squeeze past. Soon, we were on our way again and arrived at the hotel for the night.
Pride Plaza Hotel Aerocity.
The Pride Plaza Hotel stood near the airport. When we arrived, our tour guide stood in line to check everyone in and collect our room keys. It took quite a while, but I sat in the large lobby and waited. Once we all had our keys, we went to our rooms to rest and get ready for our evening meal and a drink.
We met in the hotel bar before dinner. Some of the ladies wore the beautiful dresses they had bought during the tour. It was our last night together as a whole group; some would be leaving tomorrow, while others, like me, would continue to Amritsar for a couple of days.
After our evening meal at the hotel buffet, we returned to the bar and sat together for a final drink. We chatted and enjoyed each other’s company. We had made a collection for Digamber, our guide, and Donna gave a short speech thanking him for everything he had done before presenting him with the money we had gathered.
With another day of travel ahead, I didn’t stay in the bar for long. I went back to my room and got some sleep.
