Hiroshima To Tokyo: A Smooth Ride On The Shinkansen.

A quiet travel day with buffet breakfast, a seamless bullet‑train journey, and a restful final evening in Tokyo.

Today I left Hiroshima and made my way back to Tokyo. I started the morning with breakfast in the hotel restaurant, a huge buffet hall with around 800 seats. Thankfully, there were designated tables for disabled guests, so I didn’t have to wait long to be seated. After breakfast, I returned to my room, packed my case and checked out.

Train to Tokyo.

There was a brief wait before we were taken to the station for the bullet train. A new guide arrived at the hotel, collected our tickets and escorted us to the correct platform. Everything at the station was incredibly organised, with clear boarding points for each carriage and staff ensuring passengers could disembark before anyone boarded.

The train arrived exactly on time and departed just as punctually.

The journey itself was excellent. Travelling at over 400 km an hour, the train was so smooth that I barely noticed the tilting on the curves until I looked out of the window and saw the landscape leaning at an angle. It’s remarkable how effortless the ride feels at such high speed.

The train covered the 800 km between Hiroshima and Tokyo in just under four hours. When we arrived, our guide led me out of the station, across the road and into the hotel where I would be staying for the night before she left us.

Arriving in Tokyo.

I had to wait a couple of hours before I could check in, so I walked to a nearby 7‑11 to pick up some food for the evening and browsed a few of the shops around the hotel. Once I returned and checked in, I spent the evening resting my aching legs and unwinding in my room before heading to bed early.

My hotel for tonight was the Shinagawa Prince Hotel.
