A brief stay in Yellowstone gave me a taste of its wildlife, geothermal wonders and dramatic weather, a place I’d happily return to for a longer visit.
Yellowstone National Park was one of the most memorable parts of my 2011 tour. We passed through the park and stayed overnight in one of the hotels inside the grounds, giving me just enough time to appreciate its scale, wildlife and ever‑changing weather. Yellowstone is the kind of place that feels alive, not just because of the animals, but because the landscape itself seems to breathe, steam and shift around you.
A Landscape of Extremes.
During my short time in the park, I experienced sunshine, deep snow and frozen lakes, all within a couple of days. Yellowstone has a habit of reminding you that nature doesn’t follow a schedule. One moment you’re admiring a bright blue sky, and the next you’re surrounded by snowdrifts that look like they belong in a different season entirely.
The geothermal features are unlike anything else I saw on the tour. Steam vents, bubbling pools and vast stretches of mineral‑stained ground make the park feel almost otherworldly. Even just passing through, you can sense the power beneath your feet.
I remember the smell of the sulphur that was overpowering at one of the stops we made to view the springs. It was terrible and made enjoying th sight of the incredible rock formations around the springs hard to bear. Another memory is of the morning we woke in our hotel park. It was freezing cold the lake was frozen over and there were huge snow drifts surrounding the hotel making it impossible to explore. At the time I didnt mind too much because the cold was too much for me in my jeans and tshirt.
Wildlife Everywhere.
Yellowstone is famous for its wildlife, and it didn’t disappoint. As we travelled through the park, I saw bison, elk and other animals roaming freely across the landscape. There’s something special about seeing wildlife in a place where it belongs, rather than in a zoo or behind a fence. Even from the coach, it felt like we were guests in their world as we watched a pack of wolves running through the park just below a treeline we were passing by.
A Place Worth Returning To
My visit to Yellowstone was brief, but it left a lasting impression. The combination of dramatic scenery, unpredictable weather and abundant wildlife makes it one of those places you could return to again and again and still find something new. If I ever get the chance to go back, I’d love to spend more time exploring the trails, watching the geysers and simply soaking in the atmosphere of this remarkable national park.
