In 2012, on my tour of the Southern States of America, I went through New Mexico & visited the White Sands National Monument.
White Sands Monument.
The White Sands National Monument is in the northern Chihuahuan Desert. It is known for its dramatic landscape of rare white gypsum sand dunes.
The coach I was on stopped at the visitor centre before continuing along the road through part of the desert. We stopped in two places, one where we could walk out over a wooden boardwalk to view the desert fauna & in the second place, we could climb a huge sand dune.
All though it was a very hard walk, in the high temperatures, up the very hot sand of the dunes, I did get to the top to look out over the desert. When I had finished I got back down by belly surfing back down the tall sand dune. It seemed a good idea until I realised I would spend the rest of the day with sand in every orifice.
