Costa Toscana Cruise

Cruising on the Costa Toscana was a brilliant way to explore the Mediterranean, with great food, relaxed sea days, and colourful ports to wander through. On this page, I’ve shared my personal cruise experience, what the ship was like, the places I visited, and the highlights that made this Mediterranean journey memorable. If you’re researching a Costa Toscana cruise or planning your Mediterranean getaway, I hope my photos and stories give you a clear feel for the trip.

Leaving Valencia

Location: Valencia, Spain.

Summary: After a bright morning in Valencia, the Costa Toscana eased away from the port and set course for Marseille. From the decks, the city’s skyline faded into the distance as the ship glided through calm Mediterranean waters. This leg of the journey marked the start of a scenic day at sea, sunshine, smooth sailing, and the promise of new adventures ahead.

Port of Marseille

Location: Marseille, France

Summary: After leaving Valencia, the Costa Toscana arrived in Marseille under clear Mediterranean skies. This stop brought a mix of old‑world charm and modern bustle — from the ship’s decks overlooking the Old Port to strolls past cafés, yachts, and the hilltop basilica of Notre‑Dame de la Garde. It was a day of exploring France’s southern coast before sailing onward through the Mediterranean.

Port of Savona

Location: Savona, Italy

Summary: My day in Savona didn’t go quite as planned, the Genoa excursion was cancelled, but it turned into one of the most relaxing days of the whole Costa Toscana cruise. From a quiet sunrise on my balcony to a waiter rescuing me with a perfect window seat and an over‑the‑top lunch, Savona became a slow, indulgent pause in the trip. Between cappuccinos, writing spots, and evening views from my veranda, this stop was all about unwinding and enjoying the ship at my own pace.

Excursion to Rome

Location: Civitavecchia to Rome, Italy

Summary: My Rome excursion started with a chaotic coach journey and a guide who made everything harder than it needed to be, but once we reached the city, the day turned around. A brilliant local guide took us through the Colosseum, Vatican, Spanish Steps, and Trevi Fountain, mixing history with humour. After lunch and a full walking tour, I ended the day back on the Costa Toscana with good company, live music, and a much‑needed drink.

Naples & Pompeii

Location: Naples & Pompeii, Italy

Summary: I woke to bright Neapolitan sunshine and the Costa Toscana already tied up beneath Mount Vesuvius, not a bad view to start the day. Naples was lively, loud, and full of character, and Pompeii was hauntingly still in contrast. Between the chaos of the city and the calm of the ruins, it felt like stepping through two worlds before sailing off again into the blue.

Sea Day

Location: Mediterranean

Summary: I woke on the Costa Toscana around 6:00, took my tablets, and went back to sleep until 9:30. After breakfast, I searched for a quiet spot to enjoy a coffee, easier said than done.

Journey Home

Location: Valencia to Los Alcázares, Spain

Summary: My final morning aboard the Costa Toscana began early, 06:30, to be exact. I met up with fellow travellers at the designated disembarkation point by 07:30. A cappuccino and pastries at a nearby coffee bar offered a brief moment of calm before the chaos began.
