When David John Rotie was born on February 6, 1876, in St Dogmaels, Pembrokeshire, Wales, his father, Krisdjan, was 26 and his mother, Hannah, was 22. He married Annie Mary Davies on October 28, 1916, in Bath, Somerset, England. They had seven children during their marriage. He died on August 3, 1953, in Aberteifi, Cardiganshire, Wales, at the age of 77.
