I toured New Orleans on various sightseeing trips, including a coach tour, a Segway tour, and just walking around with my Uncle Dave.

I enjoyed my Segway tour and saw many areas of New Orleans I hadn't seen before, including much of New Orleans that was flattened after Hurricane Katrina hit it in 2005. Many homeowners didn't have insurance and just left after the hurricane, leaving their destroyed homes as they were. It was pretty strange to see the destroyed homes the way they were left amongst reconstructed homes on the same street.

I always enjoy the French Quarter and the market area. My Uncle Dave and I enjoyed a wander around the area, and we had a few cocktails in Bubba Gumps restaurant and bar.

History.

The city is named after the Duke of Orleans, who reigned as Regent for Louis XV from 1715 to 1723, as it was established by French colonists and strongly influenced by their European culture. It is well known for its distinct French & Spanish Creole architecture and its cross-cultural & multilingual heritage. New Orleans is also famous for its cuisine, music (particularly as the birthplace of jazz) & its annual celebrations & festivals, most notably Mardi Gras, dating to French colonial times.

New Orleans is located in southeastern Louisiana, straddling the Mississippi River. The city & parish are bounded by the parishes of St. Tammany to the north, St. Bernard to the east, Plaquemines to the south & Jefferson to the south & west. Lake Pontchartrain, part of which is included in the city limits, lies to the north & Lake Borgne lies to the east.
