I had always wanted to go to Japan and have now been on an escorted tour of Japan, trying to visit as much as possible.
A little about Japan.
Japan is an island country in East Asia. It is situated in the northwest Pacific Ocean and is bordered on the west by the Sea of Japan, extending from the Sea of Okhotsk in the north toward the East China Sea, the Philippine Sea, and Taiwan in the south. Japan is a part of the Ring of Fire and spans an archipelago of 14,125 islands. The five main islands are Hokkaido, Honshu, Shikoku, Kyushu, and Okinawa. Tokyo is the nation's capital and largest city, followed by Yokohama, Osaka, Nagoya, Sapporo, Fukuoka, Kobe, and Kyoto.
What I hadn't realised before I went to Japan was that the Capital of Japan is where the Emperor lives. At the time of my visit, Japan had 126 emperors, 10 of whom were women.
When I visited Japan.
There were many things I wanted to see in Japan, and I have now seen many of them after the tour I went on. I went to many places I did not know anything about, which were excellent, and there were a couple of places that I wanted to go to that I wasn't that impressed with.
I think Japan is a beautiful country, and its people are lovely. Many of the places that tourists and visitors visit are in no way accessible to people with many disabilities though. Some of the places I visited had disabled paths that anyone in a wheelchair would find impossible to use, and even able-bodied but unfit people would find difficult to use. The few places I found disabled access were so poorly sign-posted that they might as well have not been there.
I would tell anyone interested in visiting Japan that it is a wonderful place. I would also tell people to go when they are younger, fitter and more able to climb steep steps or slopes and get about through some hectic places.
