Bara Imambara, Lucknow, India.

The Bara Imambara, also known as the Asafi Imambara, is a grand historical monument located in Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh, India.

The Bara Imambara was built in 1784 by Nawab Asaf-ud-Daula. It is one of the largest Imambaras in the world and is a fine example of Mughal architecture. The structure was constructed as part of a famine relief program to employ the people of Awadh during a devastating famine.

The Bara Imambara is a masterpiece of engineering, built without the use of iron and wood. Interlocking bricks support its roof, and the structure is adorned with intricate stucco work. It remains a symbol of Lucknow's rich cultural heritage and attracts visitors from around the world.

The complex includes several remarkable features:

Central Hall.

The main hall is one of the largest arched constructions in the world without any supporting beams, measuring 50 by 16 meters and over 15 meters tall.

Bhool Bhulaiya (Labyrinth).

This intricate maze of interconnected passages is a significant attraction, with 1,024 ways to enter but only two ways to exit.

Shahi Baoli (Stepwell).

A stepwell that served as a water reservoir and also has a unique architectural design.

Asfi Mosque.

A beautiful mosque within the complex.
