Today, I joined an early morning safari to experience the wildlife and to see if I could spot a tiger in the Ranthambore National Park.
I was up before the sun today. I showered and walked to the restaurant to have some breakfast, and after eating some cereal and having some fruit juice, I went back outside and got on our large coach to be taken to the place where we would join this morning's tour.
It was only a short trip to a different place from which we joined yesterday's tour. Once we arrived, our large group was split into different smaller jeep-style vehicles. As we climbed aboard, we were all given a warm blanket to wrap around ourselves to keep out the early morning cold. We were soon on our way to the section of the Ranthambore National Park that we would be visiting today.
Our first stop in the park was to see a large group of wild boars snuffling around the base of a concrete plinth, looking for food. Peacocks sat on top of the plinth and pecked at the food that I suspect had been thrown down by people in a nearby building. We continued on our safari through the park and saw some small deer, and we parked up near an area of water and a concrete toilet building that some of the braver people used.
We moved on through the park, and the safari guide told us about the animals that lived in the National Park. We stopped on a bridge over the water for a while to look at different birds before moving to an area where the guide thought a tiger might be seen. Our guide couldn't see anything and, after a while, decided to move on, but Kirsty, one of the people on tour with me, spotted a tiger in the grass close to us. The guide said that he didn't think it was a tiger, but Kirsty insisted it was telling us that she was taking photos of it. Soon, other people could see it as it walked through the tall grass. I managed to film it using my mobile phone, but it wasn't very clear until it ventured into a small clearing in the grass. A little while later, it walked away and up a hill. It had become bored with all the foreign paparazzi photographing it.
It was fantastic to see the tiger so close up in its natural habitat, and everybody thanked Kirsty for spotting it and pointing it out to us when the guide hadn't been able to see it.

After our safari, we were all taken back to the hotel for lunch. This afternoon, there was a trip to see the Ranthambore fort. I had plans to go on it, but our guide, Digamber, advised me against going on it and said it would probably be too much for me to do. I took his advice and stayed in the hotel in the afternoon. I spent some time around the swimming pool reading my Kindle, and when I got too hot, I retired to my room for a nap.
This evening, there was a show put on in an area near the swimming pool. Some people played Indian music and sang to us while two young children danced to entertain us. When it finished, we all went into a conference room in the hotel and were shown an interesting slide show on Ranthambore National Park and its conservation work. It was very interesting. After the show, we all went for dinner in the restaurant before returning to our rooms for the night.
